The 2027 Audi Q9 has officially arrived as the largest SUV the automaker has ever built, introducing a full-size, three-row luxury model for the first time. Launching alongside the performance-focused SQ9, the new flagship SUV targets buyers seeking a premium three-row vehicle with multiple powertrain options, advanced technology, and a spacious interior.
Audi Introduces Its Biggest SUV Yet
The 2027 Audi Q9 expands the company’s SUV lineup with a design that closely follows the styling of the 2027 Q7. The front end features split headlights surrounding a large grille, with the SQ9 distinguished by a honeycomb grille pattern while the standard Q9 uses vertical slats. An illuminated grille is available as an option on the standard model.
The stacked main headlights are positioned behind a tinted panel, and the rear adopts a full-width light bar across the tailgate. An illuminated Audi logo serves as the centerpiece, while the SQ9 adds quad exhaust outlets and prominent tailgate badging. Audi also continues its move away from decorative exhaust tips by using functional exhaust outlets.
Dimensions Make the Q9 Audi’s Largest Production SUV
The new Q9 measures 5.31 meters (17.4 feet) in length, making it nearly 13 centimeters longer than the outgoing BMW X7. It is also 2.21 meters wide and 1.81 meters tall, giving it a wider and lower stance.
The wheelbase stretches to 3.14 meters, which is 35 millimeters longer than the current BMW X7. Buyers can choose wheels ranging from 20 to 23 inches, reinforcing the SUV’s commanding appearance. Long rear doors, a large greenhouse, and extended overhangs further emphasize the Q9’s flagship status within Audi’s Q lineup.
Technology-Focused Cabin With Six- or Seven-Seat Layouts
The 2027 Audi Q9 is offered with either six or seven seats. It also features Audi’s largest panoramic sunroof, providing more than 1.5 square meters of glass. The roof can open or tilt, includes illumination, and offers switchable transparency.
The dashboard is dominated by three displays, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment screen, and a matching 12.3-inch passenger display. Audi retains selected physical controls while limiting glossy black trim in favor of wood or carbon-fiber finishes.
The six-seat version includes power-adjustable, heated seats in all three rows. Front occupants also receive ventilated and massaging seats, while automatic soft-close doors come standard on this configuration.
Powertrains Differ Between Europe and the United States
In Europe, the Q9 launches exclusively with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 mild-hybrid engine. Depending on the market, it produces either 241 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque or 295 horsepower and 630 Nm (464 lb-ft).
U.S. buyers receive a gasoline-powered twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 producing 429 horsepower and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque in the standard Q9. The SQ9 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 delivering 591 horsepower and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft).
Audi indicated that additional powertrains are likely to be introduced in Europe beyond the initial diesel offering. Regardless of engine choice, every Q9 comes standard with Quattro all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission.
Pricing and Availability
Audi will open order books for the Q9 in Germany this week. Pricing begins at €108,400 for the higher-output diesel model, with customer deliveries scheduled to start during the final quarter of the year.
In the United States, the 2027 Audi Q9 starts at $89,095 for the V6 model, while the SQ9 is priced from $119,395. Both models are scheduled to arrive at dealerships before the end of the year.
