Qualcomm and BMW have announced a long-term agreement under which Qualcomm Technologies will supply compute silicon for BMW Group’s next-generation digital cockpit, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and automated driving (AD) platforms. The companies said model programs covered by the agreement are scheduled to begin in the next decade.
Qualcomm to Power BMW’s Next-Generation Vehicle Technologies
The agreement, announced jointly from Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego, names Qualcomm Technologies as BMW Group’s lead compute silicon provider for future digital cockpit, ADAS, and automated driving systems.
The partnership will utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio, an integrated automotive computing platform designed to support infotainment, spatial computing, and autonomous driving functions across future BMW vehicle architectures.
What’s Included in the Agreement
The long-term deal covers several key technologies from Qualcomm’s automotive portfolio, including:
- Snapdragon Cockpit and Snapdragon Ride platforms
- Snapdragon Elite automotive system-on-chips (SoCs)
- Dedicated AI accelerators
According to the companies, these technologies will serve as the hardware foundation for BMW’s next generation of AI-powered in-vehicle experiences. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Competition Continues in Automotive Computing
The announcement comes as competition intensifies in the automotive computing market, where companies including Nvidia and Mobileye Global are pursuing partnerships with automakers through their chip and software platforms.
Qualcomm, traditionally known for its smartphone processors, has expanded its automotive business in recent years by moving beyond infotainment systems into advanced driver-assistance and automated driving technologies.
Partnership Builds on Existing Collaboration
The agreement extends an existing relationship between Qualcomm and BMW. The companies have previously collaborated on the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform and Snapdragon Auto Connectivity Platforms, which support BMW’s iDrive infotainment and connectivity features.
More recently, the two companies co-developed Snapdragon Ride Pilot, which entered commercial production in November 2025 with the BMW iX3, the first vehicle in BMW’s Neue Klasse model program.
Snapdragon Ride Pilot powers BMW’s Symbiotic Drive system, providing hands-free highway driving, automatic lane changes, and parking assistance while keeping the driver actively engaged with the automated driving system.
Long-Term Partnership Expands Qualcomm’s Role
The new agreement significantly broadens Qualcomm’s role within BMW’s future vehicle lineup, extending the company’s position as BMW’s compute silicon partner across a wider range of vehicle classes and markets throughout the next decade.
With the expanded partnership, Qualcomm Technologies will provide the computing hardware that underpins BMW’s future digital cockpit, ADAS, and automated driving systems as the automaker prepares its next generation of vehicles.
