Kia July sales reached a record 75,857 vehicles, marking the automaker’s best July ever. While electric vehicle sales declined, strong demand for the Seltos and Sportage Hybrid helped drive overall growth, highlighting two different priorities among American SUV buyers.

Kia Records Best July Sales Performance

Kia sold 75,857 vehicles in July, setting a new record for the month. Rather than being driven by high-profile models such as the Telluride or EV9, much of the growth came from two smaller SUVs.

The Seltos posted a 61% year-over-year sales increase, while Sportage Hybrid sales climbed 76%. During the same period, Kia’s electric vehicle sales declined even as the company’s total hybrid sales more than doubled.

Sportage Hybrid Builds on an Established Bestseller

The Sportage is already one of Kia’s best-selling vehicles, making the 76% increase in Sportage Hybrid sales particularly notable. Unlike smaller or newly introduced models, achieving rapid growth from an established high-volume vehicle is more challenging.

The Sportage Hybrid offers buyers lower fuel consumption while retaining the familiarity of an SUV they already know. Kia’s overall 108% increase in hybrid sales suggests that more buyers are choosing hybrid powertrains as a middle ground between gasoline and electric vehicles.

Seltos Gains Momentum With Its Entry-Level Pricing

Unlike the Sportage Hybrid, the Seltos is not a hybrid model. Its appeal centers on providing buyers with an SUV at a lower starting price than the Sportage and well below Kia’s larger three-row SUVs.

The Seltos gives customers the higher seating position and cargo flexibility of an SUV without the added cost of a larger vehicle. Its strong sales growth reflects continued demand for affordable SUV options.

Two Different SUVs Meet the Same Customer Need

The Sportage Hybrid and Seltos occupy different positions in Kia’s lineup, but both address a common goal for buyers seeking greater value. The Sportage Hybrid reduces fuel consumption after purchase, while the Seltos lowers the cost of entering SUV ownership.

Kia’s record July sales demonstrate strong demand for practical SUV choices, with the Sportage Hybrid and Seltos contributing significantly to the brand’s best July sales performance while overall hybrid sales more than doubled despite lower EV sales.
