Chevrolet continues to offer a range of electric vehicles despite General Motors shifting greater attention back toward internal combustion engines. While the automaker is preparing to launch the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, questions remain about the long-term future of Chevrolet’s EV lineup as market conditions and company priorities evolve.
Chevrolet Continues EV Expansion Amid Changing Priorities
While many legacy automakers continue investing in electrification, electric vehicle adoption among American brands outside of companies focused exclusively on EVs—such as Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors—has not matched the performance of several European and Korean competitors, as well as Chinese EV brands in markets outside North America.
Chevrolet remains committed to offering electric vehicles, including the redesigned 2027 Bolt. However, General Motors’ renewed focus on gasoline-powered vehicles has raised questions about how long some Chevrolet EVs will remain in production.
2027 Chevrolet Bolt Returns as the Brand’s Entry-Level EV
The second-generation Chevrolet Bolt hatchback replaces the first-generation Bolt EUV for the 2027 model year after customer demand for a successor to Chevrolet’s entry-level electric vehicle.
The updated model features revised styling and new technology while retaining a single front-wheel-drive electric motor producing 210 horsepower.
Strengths
The Bolt’s biggest advantage is its affordability. The Bolt LT starts at $27,600, while the Bolt RS begins just above $30,000, making it one of the least expensive new EVs available.
Both trims carry an EPA-estimated driving range of 262 miles per charge. Chevrolet also includes an eight-year/100,000-mile limited battery warranty and offers the Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
The redesigned Bolt features a standard NACS charging port, supports DC fast charging capable of charging the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, and is compatible with Tesla Superchargers.
Weaknesses
According to GM Authority, production of the updated Bolt is expected to last only about 18 months before Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas transitions to producing gasoline-powered vehicles.

The report attributes the shortened production run to political and economic factors, including tariffs encouraging domestic manufacturing and the expiration of the federal EV tax credit in September 2025.
The Bolt may also face increasing competition from lower-priced electric vehicles entering the North American market, including the Fiat Topolino, although the report notes that the vehicle’s road legality remains uncertain.
Chevrolet Equinox EV Targets the Mainstream SUV Segment
The Equinox EV serves as Chevrolet’s most affordable electric SUV for the 2026 model year. Competing against models including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Tesla Model Y, it is offered in LT1, LT2, and RS trims with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Front-wheel-drive versions offer an estimated range of up to 319 miles, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 307 miles. Pricing starts at $34,995 for the LT1 FWD and reaches $48,195 for the RS AWD.
Weaknesses
The report notes that single-motor front-wheel-drive models deliver slower acceleration than some competing electric SUVs. Entry-level trims also lack power-adjustable front seats.
Earlier reviews also found the base LT1’s interior materials less refined than higher trims.
Like other recent Chevrolet models, the Equinox EV does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto because General Motors has adopted a Google-based infotainment system.

Chevrolet Blazer EV Continues Into 2027
The all-electric Chevrolet Blazer, first introduced for the 2024 model year, carries over largely unchanged for 2027. Buyers can choose front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations with prices ranging from $44,700 for the LT FWD to $55,295 for the RS AWD.
Strengths
Front-wheel-drive models offer an estimated 312 miles of range, while all-wheel-drive versions deliver between 283 and 302 miles depending on configuration.
The Blazer EV supports DC fast charging and Tesla Superchargers when paired with a compatible NACS adapter.
The range-topping Blazer EV SS features 615 horsepower, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds, and includes Super Cruise with a complimentary three-year OnStar subscription.
Chevrolet also provides an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty along with roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.
Weaknesses
The report says some buyers may find the Blazer EV’s styling polarizing and could be disappointed by the absence of a front trunk. Like the Equinox EV, it also lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Blazer EV SS starts above $60,000, and previous reviews concluded that similarly priced competitors such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai IONIQ 5 N offer comparable performance while providing faster charging and greater practicality.
Silverado EV Focuses on Capability and Utility
The Silverado EV remains Chevrolet’s only electric pickup and continues into the 2026 model year. New additions include the off-road-focused Trail Boss and the Stars and Steel Special Edition available on RST Extended and Max Range models.
Strengths
One of the Silverado EV’s standout features is its Multi-Flex Midgate, which expands cargo capacity for longer loads. Combined with its available multifunction tailgate and up to 10.7 cubic feet of front trunk storage, the truck emphasizes utility.

All trims feature four-wheel drive, while higher-spec versions deliver up to 478 miles of driving range. Extended Range LT and Trail Boss models are rated to tow up to 12,500 pounds.
The Silverado EV also supports Tesla Superchargers and DC fast charging, adding between 74 and 120 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes.
Weaknesses
The report notes several recalls affecting earlier Silverado EV models, including recalls issued between 2023 and 2024 involving safety restraint equipment and a May 2024 recall addressing rear electric motor wire insulation that could result in a loss of power.
Pricing also remains a challenge. The Silverado EV starts above $55,000, while higher-spec Trail Boss models approach $100,000. The Work Truck variant is reserved for commercial and fleet customers.
According to the report, depreciation has reduced used 2024 Silverado EV prices to approximately $25,000 in some cases, making pre-owned examples an option for buyers seeking a lower-cost electric truck.
