A Rare Car From a Mysterious Collection

Among the most talked-about is the collection owned by the Sultan of Brunei, which has long been surrounded by mystery. While the complete collection has never been publicly documented, a small number of vehicles have surfaced over the years. One of those cars is now being offered for sale.

The 1992 Jaguar XJ220 is currently listed on PistonHeads for approximately $740,000 (converted). The supercar was originally purchased by the Sultan of Brunei during an era when several major automakers were entering the high-performance supercar segment.
Jaguar first unveiled the XJ220 as a concept at the 1988 British Motor Show, and production received approval by December 1989. To bring the model to market, Jaguar partnered with TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing).
Performance and Hand-Built Engineering
The Jaguar XJ220 was designed by Keith Helfet and features a distinctive space-age exterior. Power comes from a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing 542 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque.
The engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission supported by an AP Racing twin-clutch system, while AP Racing also supplied the vehicle’s braking system. Each XJ220 was hand-built in Bloxham, Oxfordshire, with the first production example completed in June 1992 and carrying a retail price of around $600,000.
Low Mileage and Jaguar Classic Maintenance
After its time in the Sultan of Brunei’s collection, this Jaguar XJ220 returned to the United Kingdom, where it was serviced by Jaguar Cars at Browns Lane. The vehicle was first registered in 2002 and has accumulated just 2,646 miles.
The current owner acquired the car in 2018, and it has since been meticulously maintained by Jaguar Classic. The right-hand-drive supercar is finished in Spa Silver with a Smoke Grey Connolly leather interior.
