Honda U.S. sales reached their highest July total in seven years as American Honda reported strong gains across its Honda and Acura brands. Rising hybrid demand and solid passenger car sales helped the automaker outperform several Japanese rivals that posted year-over-year declines during the month.
Honda and Acura Deliver Strong July Sales Growth
American Honda reported combined July sales of 136,549 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 12.8% from a year earlier.
The Honda brand accounted for 124,553 of those sales, up 12.3% year over year. The company’s performance stood out as Mazda and Toyota both recorded annual sales declines during the same month.
The results suggest Honda’s current lineup continues to attract buyers looking for efficient and affordable new vehicles.
Civic, Accord and Hybrids Drive Honda’s Momentum
Honda passenger car sales increased 35.7% in July, led by strong performances from the Civic and Accord. The Civic recorded its best July sales since 2021, while the Accord achieved its strongest July result since 2019.
Hybrid vehicles continued to be a major growth driver. Honda sold a record 36,609 hybrid vehicles during July.
Hybrid models accounted for 54% of CR-V sales and 41% of all Accord sales during the month.
The CR-V remained America’s best-selling SUV in July as Toyota continued to experience supply issues affecting the latest RAV4.
Honda’s Prologue electric SUV recorded a significant decline in sales, which the report says is expected because the model will soon be discontinued.
The Prelude sold 354 units in July, exceeding its sales target despite complaints that the coupe was priced too high.
“By maintaining our commitment to a balanced lineup of passenger cars and light trucks, Honda and Acura customers are able to find affordable products that meet their needs as market conditions change,” said Lance Woelfer, Vice President of Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Our Honda hybrid models also have been a big hit, bringing in a record number of buyers looking for vehicles with high fuel economy that are still fun-to-drive.”
Acura Posts Double-Digit Growth
Acura also delivered a strong July, with sales rising 18.9% year over year to 11,996 vehicles.
SUV sales increased 21.6%, led by the MDX, whose sales climbed by more than 60%. According to the report, it was the MDX’s strongest sales month since December 2024.
Acura also said the ADX leads its segment with an approximately 30% retail share.
The Integra continued its strong performance, with July sales increasing 68.8% and year-to-date sales rising 45.3%.
Meanwhile, the TLX posted single-digit sales after production ended last year, with Acura likely selling the remaining inventory still available at dealerships.
Honda Focuses on Gasoline and Hybrid Models
The July results marked Honda’s fourth consecutive month of sales gains, supporting a strong performance through 2026.
According to Woelfer, Honda has not needed more aggressive incentives to attract customers, although supplies of some models have fallen to fewer than 20 days.
With the Prologue approaching the end of production, Honda is placing greater emphasis on its affordable gasoline and hybrid vehicles.
The automaker is planning facelifts for the Accord and Passport, both of which are performing well in 2026. The company also plans to extend the life cycles of these and other models after reporting record losses earlier this year related to failed EV projects.
