Nissan’s third-generation e-Power hybrid system has earned a Guinness World Records title after completing a 1,230-mile journey on a single tank of fuel. The achievement comes as the automaker prepares to introduce the technology to the U.S. market in the next-generation Nissan Rogue for the 2027 model year.
Nissan Marks a Decade of e-Power Technology
Nissan introduced its e-Power technology in the 2016 Note, and over the past decade it has expanded to several of the company’s most popular global models. The system is now in its third generation.
Unlike conventional hybrids, e-Power uses its gasoline engine only to recharge the battery that powers the electric motor. The engine is not connected to the drive wheels, with propulsion handled entirely by the electric motor. According to Nissan, this design delivers strong fuel economy, particularly in heavy traffic, while also serving markets where charging infrastructure cannot yet support widespread electric vehicle adoption.
Third-Generation e-Power Earns Guinness World Record
The latest generation of e-Power debuted late last year in the Nissan Qashqai, one of the brand’s most popular models in Europe. Nissan said the updated system includes a range of efficiency improvements.
To demonstrate its real-world capability, Nissan conducted a four-day drive across Colombia from July 14 to July 17, 2026. The journey traveled from Bogotá to the Caribbean coast, covering heavy urban traffic, congested roads, and hilly rural routes.
During the trip, the Qashqai traveled 1,230 miles on a single 14.5-gallon tank of fuel, averaging 84.8 mpg. Guinness World Records recognized the achievement with the title of “longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle – SUV.”
e-Power Technology Is Headed to the United States
While the Qashqai itself is not scheduled for the U.S. market, Nissan has confirmed that its e-Power technology will arrive in North America.
The first U.S. model to receive the system will be the next-generation Nissan Rogue, which is scheduled for the 2027 model year. Nissan is targeting fuel economy of at least 40 mpg for the new Rogue.
Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa described the Rogue as the company’s most important vehicle because of its role in driving sales volume. Introducing e-Power in the brand’s best-selling U.S. model aligns it with many competitors that already offer hybrid powertrains.
Current e-Power Setup Outside the U.S.
The current Rogue is already available with e-Power technology in markets outside the United States under the X-Trail e-Power name. That version uses the previous generation of the series hybrid system.
Its powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that functions as a generator with an electric motor producing 201 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque.
The report states that the third-generation e-Power system could deliver additional power when it is introduced in the next-generation Rogue, though no official output figures have been announced.
Nissan’s record-setting drive highlights the latest evolution of its e-Power technology as the company prepares to bring the hybrid system to the U.S. market with the next-generation Rogue.
