Pagani Automobili continues to emphasize meticulous craftsmanship in every vehicle it builds, from custom titanium hardware to hand-finished interior components. Founder Horacio Pagani also revealed a practical side to his personal life, choosing a Toyota minivan as his daily driver despite leading one of the world’s most exclusive hypercar manufacturers.
Horacio Pagani Balances Innovation With Practicality
Visiting the Pagani Automobili atelier offers an experience that resembles an artisan workshop more than a traditional automotive factory. While the company produces some of the world’s most expensive hypercars, founder Horacio Pagani maintains a practical approach by using a Toyota minivan for his daily commute.
Before establishing Pagani Automobili, Horacio Pagani worked at Lamborghini, where he helped advance the use of carbon fiber on the Countach. That focus on advanced materials became the foundation for the engineering and manufacturing philosophy the company follows today.
Custom Components Define Every Pagani
According to Mat Watson’s latest video with Carwow, one of the clearest examples of Pagani’s attention to detail is the hardware used to assemble each vehicle.
Rather than using standard fasteners, every Pagani is built with approximately 2,000 custom-machined titanium bolts. At about $80 each, the fasteners alone cost more than $160,000. Each bolt also features a logo engraved to a depth of two microns.
The same philosophy extends throughout the vehicle. A 95-pound block of aluminum is machined until only a 3.7-pound core remains before an artisan hand-polishes it for eight hours.
Even the engine dipstick receives the same level of attention. It is machined from billet titanium and threaded so the engraved logo aligns upright when fully tightened.
Mechanical Design Remains a Centerpiece
Pagani also places significant emphasis on the driving experience through exposed mechanical components. The manual gear selector incorporates visible springs and titanium linkages, creating a direct mechanical connection between the driver and the transmission.
This design approach is also featured in customized one-off models such as the Huayra Derecho, where the exposed shifting mechanism serves as a prominent element of the cabin.
Focus Remains on Internal Combustion
While much of the automotive industry is moving toward electric vehicles, Pagani said it researched battery-powered platforms before canceling its electric supercar program after determining that its customers had no interest in such a model.
According to the report, Pagani buyers continue to favor the sound of an AMG V12 engine and the mechanical feedback that accompanies it.
From custom titanium fasteners to hand-finished components and a continued commitment to internal combustion, Pagani’s manufacturing philosophy remains centered on craftsmanship and mechanical precision in every vehicle it produces.
