The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe is set to become the first model in the brand’s new electric GT lineup to reach the United States. Equipped with a dual-motor powertrain, rapid charging capability, and a technology-focused cabin, the all-electric performance sedan is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in early 2027.
Mercedes-AMG Introduces the First Electric GT for America
Few new performance cars have generated as much discussion this year as Mercedes-AMG’s all-electric GT 4-Door Coupe. Its styling, including bold proportions, an illuminated grille, and six round taillights, has drawn mixed reactions.
Mercedes-AMG has now unveiled the first version confirmed for the U.S. market: the GT 53 4-Door Coupe. While it is not the flagship model in the lineup, it serves as the entry point into the brand’s next-generation electric performance range.
Dual-Motor Power Delivers Strong Performance
The GT 53 replaces the upcoming GT 63’s triple-motor configuration with a dual-motor setup producing 536 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
According to Mercedes, the electric performance sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
Although fully electric, the GT 53 features a simulated soundtrack designed to mimic Mercedes-AMG’s turbocharged inline-six engine. Drivers can also activate virtual gear shifts using the steering wheel paddles.
New Exterior Design and AMG-Focused Interior
The GT 53 adopts an all-new fastback design with flush door handles, a low-slung stance, and a standard active rear spoiler. Buyers can also choose an active rear diffuser that automatically adjusts to improve either efficiency or grip, depending on driving conditions.
Despite housing a large battery beneath the floor, the new body sits approximately 1.6 inches lower than its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin combines modern technology with traditional AMG elements. A 14-inch touchscreen is angled toward the driver, while an optional passenger display is available. The center console retains physical rotary controls and also includes wireless charging, illuminated cupholders, and AMG-exclusive trim.
The steering wheel features AMG DRIVE UNIT controls, while a new Response Control dial allows drivers to adjust throttle response regardless of the selected drive mode.
The GT 53 offers six AMG Dynamic Select driving modes, including Eco, Comfort, Sport, and AMGFORCE Sport+. The AMGFORCE Sport+ setting enhances the simulated six-cylinder sound and enables virtual gear changes.
800-Volt Battery and Fast Charging Capability
The GT 53 is powered by two permanently excited electric motors paired with a 106-kWh battery operating on an 800-volt electrical architecture.
Mercedes-AMG says the battery uses directly cooled cylindrical cells derived from the company’s Formula One expertise to maintain consistent performance during sustained driving. The vehicle also features a two-speed transmission designed to deliver stronger launches in first gear while improving efficiency at higher speeds.
Using an 800-volt charger, the GT 53 supports charging speeds of up to 600 kW, allowing it to add approximately 534 km (332 miles) of range in about 10 minutes. Charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 11 minutes.
Mercedes says the vehicle can deliver up to 809 km (503 miles) of driving range on a full charge, depending on the specification.
U.S. Arrival Scheduled for Early 2027
Mercedes-AMG says the GT 53 4-Door Coupe will arrive at U.S. dealerships in early 2027, making it the first model from the new electric GT family to reach the American market. Pricing has not been announced, though the GT 53 will be positioned below the upcoming GT 63 in the lineup.
