A heavily camouflaged Honda hybrid SUV prototype has been spotted testing on U.S. roads, fueling speculation about the automaker’s upcoming electrified lineup. While the vehicle’s identity remains unconfirmed, the sighting comes after Honda announced plans for a new hybrid SUV for North America.
Camouflaged SUV Sparks Questions About Its Identity
Photos shared by Kindelauto on Instagram show a heavily disguised SUV that was reportedly photographed near a Honda manufacturing plant in North America. The camouflage conceals most of the vehicle’s design, making it difficult to determine whether it will be sold under the Honda or Acura brand.
In May, Honda announced that it is developing a new hybrid SUV for North America that is expected to go on sale by 2030. Rumors have suggested the vehicle could be the next-generation Acura RDX.
Speculation Points to Honda or Acura
Because the test vehicle does not display any identifiable branding, speculation continues over its identity.
Some believe the prototype could be an Acura model, while others suggest it may instead be a new Honda SUV. Automotive blog Creative311 has also suggested there is a possibility the vehicle could be the Accord SUV, which is scheduled to launch sometime in 2029.
According to that theory, however, the Accord SUV prototype appears more comparable to a Subaru Outback competitor, while the newly photographed vehicle has the proportions of a taller SUV.
Camouflage Hides Most Design Details
The prototype appears to be a midsize SUV, although its camouflage conceals many of its styling details.
Visible design elements include a full-width LED taillight across the rear and slim headlights at the front. Comparisons with Honda’s Hybrid Sedan prototype and the Acura Hybrid SUV Prototype show some similarities, but neither vehicle matches the test model exactly.

The exact identity of the SUV remains unknown, but its appearance on public roads indicates it is undergoing real-world testing.
