The BMW M2 CS has already become a highly sought-after version of the compact sports coupe, but BMW Japan is taking exclusivity even further with the new M2 CS Edition Edge. Limited to just 40 cars, the special model adds more carbon fiber components and other upgrades while carrying a significantly higher price.
The BMW M2 CS Is Already Nearly Sold Out
In many ways, the BMW M2 carries the spirit of the original E30 M3. It is small, available only as a two-door, and can get rowdy when pushed. Practical performance is not its main priority, and the model is actively participating in production car-based motorsport. With the M3 now roughly the size of a ’90s M5, the M2 is as compact as it gets.
For the 2026 model year, BMW introduced the M2 CS, making the compact sports coupe lighter, stronger and more aggressive. It represents the ultimate road-going iteration of the M2 to date, and BMW has built more than 2,000 examples. Practically all of them have already been spoken for.
Japan Gets a Rare Chance at the M2 CS
The U.S. market received the largest allocation, with around 300 units. Canada gets only 81 cars, while South Africa receives 47. As a nod to its codename, Japan gets 87 units, leaving the rest of the world competing for the remaining 1,400 cars, give or take.
The M2 CS is effectively sold out at this point, but there is still a glimmer of hope for buyers in Japan. However, getting one requires living in Japan, along with having enough money to enter the market.
Meet the BMW M2 CS Edition Edge
BMW Japan is introducing the M2 CS Edition Edge, giving the already rare M2 CS additional upgrades over the standard version. The special model also carries a higher price and adds more carbon fiber exterior components designed to reduce weight.
The M2 CS is already around 100 pounds lighter than a regular M2, making every additional weight-saving measure significant. Even the engine cover is made from carbon fiber, which means the engine should be less muffled.
The exhaust system also receives a distinctive change. Instead of the usual quad-exit arrangement, the Edition Edge features four center exits. The model can effectively be viewed as an M2 CS equipped with just about every part from the M Performance catalog.
The M2 CS Edition Edge Comes at a Premium
The BMW M2 CS carries a base price of ¥14,880,000 in Japan, which is around $94,000. That is not far from its $98,600 price in the U.S. The M2 CS Edition Edge, however, starts at ¥16,630,000, or approximately $105,000.
Exclusivity comes at a premium, and the Edition Edge will be considerably rarer than the already limited M2 CS. While 87 M2 CS cars have been earmarked for Japan, BMW will produce just 40 M2 CS Edition Edge models.
Of those 40 cars, 20 will be finished in M Brooklyn Grey and the remaining examples will feature Sapphire Black. All of them will be right-hand drive, further defining the limited Japanese-market edition.
