The Chevy Camaro disappeared after the 2024 model year, but General Motors is now entertaining the possibility of bringing the nameplate back alongside a new CT5-V Blackwing. The next Camaro is expected to be more practical than before, with a four-door sedan joining a new coupe.
New Looks Expected for the Next Chevy Camaro
Renders imagine the Camaro sedan with styling almost identical to the now-dead sixth-generation Camaro coupe, but the upcoming model is expected to adopt a much more modern design.
New Chevy products feature very slim LED clusters positioned alongside the upper grille element. Some also use a full-width LED strip connecting the headlights to the new Bowtie logo, which itself serves as a light source. Similar design elements are expected on the next Camaro.
At the rear, the four-unit taillight arrangement is expected to remain, although the graphics are expected to become more elaborate.
Camaro Sedan Could Get a Supercharged V8
The Camaro sedan is expected to share its underpinnings with the next Cadillac CT5, which is built atop the Alpha platform. That could result in similar interior and exterior dimensions between the upcoming sedans.
The engines could also be closely related. A high-performance Camaro variant with a supercharged V8 is rumored to be in development with more than 700 horsepower, potentially making it more powerful than the last Camaro ZL1.
Elsewhere in the lineup, GM’s new naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8 from the 2027 Corvette lineup could be used in the Camaro sedan. That engine would provide at least 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque.
However, GM will have to carefully manage costs as it develops the new Camaro.
Camaro Sedan Faces Strong Competition
Bringing the Camaro name to a four-door sedan presents a challenge. The last-generation Dodge Charger demonstrated that a four-door V8 sedan can work, but Camaro fans are expected to scrutinize the move closely, making the execution particularly important for GM.
The Camaro sedan would need strong handling, something the current CT5-V Blackwing demonstrates is possible. It would also need a V8 option to compete with the upcoming Ford Mustang sedan while avoiding the negative reaction surrounding the current Dodge Charger.
Pricing will be another critical factor. If the Camaro becomes too expensive, it could face comparisons with the Cadillac as well as German models such as the BMW M3.
Ford is reportedly targeting a base price below $40,000 for its Mustang sedan, meaning the Camaro would need to land in a similar range to remain competitive.
New Camaro Reportedly Delayed to 2029
With the new Camaro reportedly being pushed back to 2029, GM has time to develop the sedan and coupe. But balancing performance, practicality, pricing and the expectations attached to the Camaro name will remain a significant challenge.
