A new Rivian recall covering 3,829 R1S and R1T electric vehicles expands a safety campaign from last year after front turn signals were found to potentially fail to illuminate.
The recall involves MY2025–2026 vehicles and follows an earlier campaign, recall 25V387, filed with NHTSA last year over the same defect. According to recall 26V508, the supplier failed to properly quarantine suspect parts, allowing them to be installed in additional vehicles.
Rivian Recall Covers Nearly 4,000 Vehicles
Rivian is faring better so far this year compared with 2025, when the California-based automaker endured a challenging period amid slowing U.S. EV demand. The company raised its full-year delivery guidance to 65,000–70,000 vehicles from 62,000–67,000.
However, conditions remain difficult. Rivian has laid off hundreds of employees to reduce costs and ranked last among 26 brands in a Consumer Reports predicted-reliability study.
The latest recall covers 3,204 R1S vehicles built between June 12, 2024, and May 26, 2026, along with 625 R1T vehicles built between October 1, 2024, and March 19, 2026.
Supplier Parts Led to Expanded Recall
The supplier was responsible for failing to properly contain the suspect parts, but Rivian remains accountable for the vehicles it sells. The latest campaign follows continued monitoring of the issue after the initial recall was issued last year.
From June 2025 through July 2026, Rivian identified 17 instances of front turn-signal failure. The company subsequently decided to add 3,829 vehicles to the recall after determining that the supplier had failed to contain the suspect parts.
The defect violates FMVSS No. 108, which governs lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.
Failed Turn Signals Could Increase Crash Risk
If the front turn signals do not function, other road users may not recognize that an affected vehicle intends to turn, increasing the risk of a crash.
Rivian has reported no related crashes, injuries, or fatalities. Warning signs of the issue include a dashboard message, rapid turn-signal blinking, and faster clicking sounds.
Rivian Recall Fix Begins With Inspection
Rivian will begin notifying owners about the fix by September 29. The remedy includes inspecting the front turn-signal lamps and replacing them if necessary.
Meanwhile, the EV maker continues building momentum with the R2, a smaller alternative to the R1S that launched this year and competes directly with the Tesla Model Y. An even smaller R3 is expected to follow, potentially in 2028.
The expanded recall adds another safety campaign for Rivian as the automaker works through a year in which it has raised its delivery guidance while also facing cost reductions and reliability concerns.
