The 2027 Kia EV3 is entering the U.S. market with a lower-than-expected starting price, giving the new electric vehicle an immediate place among the few new EVs available for under $30,000. The EV3 starts at $29,890 for the Light trim, although the price rises quickly across the lineup.
2027 Kia EV3 Pricing
Revealed in April, the 2027 Kia EV3 is Kia’s smallest EV in the U.S. It brings much of the technology and design found in larger Kia models into a smaller package.
The EV3 was expected to start at around $35,000, but Kia has priced the base model significantly lower. The $29,890 starting price for the Light trim excludes a $1,385 destination charge.

- Wind: $34,990
- Land: $38,490
- GT-Line: $43,490
- GT: $45,890
Pricing climbs by more than $15,000 between the entry-level Light and top-spec GT. All-wheel drive is available for the Wind at $3,700 and for the Land at $3,200. AWD is standard on the GT-Line and GT.
How the EV3 Compares With the Leaf and Bolt
The Kia EV3 enters a small group of new EVs priced below $30,000. The Nissan Leaf starts at $29,990, making it $100 more expensive than the EV3, while the Chevrolet Bolt remains the cheapest new EV at $27,600.
Price is only part of the comparison. Based on performance, range and efficiency, the least expensive Leaf and Bolt outperform the EV3, while the Kia has the advantage in charging speed.
Performance is similar across all three models. The Leaf and Bolt figures are based on Car and Driver testing, while Kia claims a 7.1-second 0-60 run for the EV3.
The EV3 Light has the shortest range of the three, primarily because of its smaller battery, and it is slightly less efficient than its rivals. Its key advantage is faster charging.
EV3 Offers More Space and Standard Features
The EV3 has the strongest packaging of the three models. It provides significantly more rear legroom than the Leaf and a much larger trunk than the Bolt.
Standard equipment on the EV3 includes dual-zone automatic climate control, dual 12.3-inch displays, adaptive cruise control and a SynTex-wrapped steering wheel. That specification roughly matches what is available in rivals at a similar price.
Higher EV3 trims add more power and equipment. The top model produces 288 hp, while the Wind variant is available with a range of up to 321 miles.
Where the EV3 Fits in the Budget EV Market
On paper, the base Kia EV3 does not surpass the Leaf or Bolt, which offer more range and slightly better performance. However, based on initial impressions of the EV3, the Kia has the most showroom appeal of the group, potentially giving it an advantage over its more conservative rivals.
The EV3’s low starting price makes it a notable addition to the budget EV segment, but the higher trims quickly move into a price bracket occupied by larger, more powerful EVs such as the Tesla Model Y and Toyota bZ.
At under $35,000, however, the 2027 Kia EV3 adds another option to the budget EV market, with a starting price that is lower than initially expected.
