Porsche is giving driving enthusiasts another reason to celebrate. The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S will once again be available with a six-speed manual transmission, responding to what the automaker describes as “overwhelming customer demand.”
The new Carrera S with the MT Package fills an important gap in the 911 lineup. Until now, buyers wanting three pedals generally had to choose between the less powerful Carrera T and the much more expensive high-performance GT3 models.
Rear-Wheel Drive and a 473-HP Flat-Six
The manual Carrera S combines rear-wheel drive with Porsche’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing 473 horsepower. That gives it a significant power advantage over the 388-horsepower Carrera T, whose six-speed manual transmission is shared with the new Carrera S.
The MT Package will be available for both the 911 Carrera S coupe and cabriolet. Porsche has not yet announced an official 0-to-60-mph time, but the manual model should remain close to the automatic Carrera S, which completes the sprint in 3.3 seconds.
The return of the manual transmission also gives the Carrera S a more traditional sports-car character at a price considerably below the manual GT3 range.
The Manual Carrera S Gets More Than Three Pedals
Porsche has added more performance equipment to the Carrera S with the MT Package rather than simply replacing the dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The package includes rear-axle steering, PASM Sport suspension with a 10-millimeter lower ride height, the Sport Chrono Package and unique exhaust tuning.
For the first time, this Carrera S configuration also receives center-lock wheels. Porsche says the wheels reduce weight by 17 pounds compared with the standard Carrera S wheels.
Other visual details include titanium exhaust outlets and a red “S” designation at the rear.
Extensive Options Remain Available
As expected from Porsche, buyers can further personalize the Carrera S with a wide range of options. The car can be ordered with 17 exterior paint choices and more than 70 leather interior configurations.
Several seat designs are available, including folding lightweight bucket seats, while performance-focused buyers can add options such as ceramic composite brakes.
An exterior package also adds distinctive puddle lights that project the six-speed manual shift pattern onto the ground.
2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S Manual Pricing
The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with the MT Package starts at $167,100 for the coupe and $181,000 for the cabriolet. Those prices exclude a $2,350 destination fee.
That makes the manual Carrera S more expensive than the current automatic Carrera S, which starts at $156,200 for the coupe. With Porsche’s extensive list of options, a heavily equipped Carrera S could easily exceed $200,000.
Deliveries of the new manual-equipped 911 are expected to begin by the end of the year.
Porsche Keeps the Manual Alive
The return of the manual Carrera S comes at a time when three-pedal transmissions are disappearing from more performance cars. Even enthusiast-oriented models such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Mini Cooper have moved away from manual gearboxes in recent years.
Porsche’s decision keeps the manual transmission available across a broader portion of the 911 family. Including different body styles, the 911 lineup now offers seven manual-equipped variants.
The move is particularly significant as Porsche prepares for an increasingly electrified future. While the company has confirmed plans for an electric 718, the manual Carrera S demonstrates that Porsche is still willing to preserve an analog driving experience for enthusiasts where the technology allows it.
For drivers who believe that a clutch pedal and a physical shift lever remain essential parts of the sports-car experience, the 2027 Carrera S MT Package represents a welcome reprieve from the industry’s move toward automatic and electric powertrains.
