Rivian is giving its R1S SUV and R1T pickup a substantial update for the 2027 model year, adding customer-requested features, new interior choices, additional wheel and tire options, and a simpler trim structure.
The changes also bring a modest price reduction after Rivian raised the effective entry price of the R1 lineup for the 2026 model year. The 2027 R1T now starts at $79,990, while the R1S starts at $83,990, before the $1,895 destination fee.
Rivian Adds a New Silver Paint Color
For 2027, Rivian is replacing LA Silver with Esker Silver, a liquid-metal finish previously introduced on the smaller R2. The new color is available across the R1 lineup regardless of the selected interior.
Rivian is also revising its interior naming strategy to align the R1 family more closely with the R2. Base models can be equipped with Black Mountain or Ocean Coast interiors, while higher trims gain additional Signature themes.
Slate Sky Signature combines gray tones with plaid details and walnut accents. Black Mountain Signature pairs dark charcoal and black upholstery with ash wood, while Ocean Coast Signature uses light-gray upholstery with accents inspired by weathered driftwood.
R1S Finally Gets Second-Row Captain’s Chairs
One of the biggest changes for the R1S is the addition of optional second-row captain’s chairs, a feature Rivian says customers have requested more than any other interior option.
The configuration creates a center passageway to the third row, allowing passengers to reach the rear seats without moving the captain’s chairs or removing child seats. Each chair also features a stowable armrest and push-to-release cup holder.
Both seats can fold flat, include child-seat attachment points and are heated. Buyers who prefer a traditional seven-seat layout can still select a second-row bench on certain R1S configurations.
R1T Gets a New Adventure Wheel
The 2027 R1T Premium also receives a new 20-inch Adventure wheel paired with an all-season Goodyear tire. The setup is available as a no-cost option on the Performance trim as well.
Rivian estimates up to 300 miles of range for the R1T Premium, 380 miles for the Premium Long Range and 348 miles for the Performance version, depending on configuration.
Rivian Simplifies the R1 Trim Structure
Rivian is also changing how it names the R1 lineup. Rather than organizing models primarily around the number of electric motors, the company is shifting to Premium, Performance and Quad designations.
Premium
The Premium trim uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. Rivian estimates a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.5 seconds.
An optional power upgrade increases output to 665 horsepower and 829 pound-feet, cutting the 0-to-60-mph time to 3.4 seconds. A Long Range option is also available, delivering up to 410 miles in the R1S and 420 miles in the R1T.
Performance
The Performance version uses a tri-motor setup producing 850 horsepower and 1,103 pound-feet of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and offers up to 371 miles of range in both the R1S and R1T.
Quad
At the top of the lineup, the Quad features four electric motors producing 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 pound-feet of torque. Rivian estimates a 0-to-60-mph time of 2.5 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 10.5 seconds.
The Quad can travel up to 374 miles on a charge in both R1 models.
2027 Rivian R1T and R1S Pricing
The 2027 Rivian R1T starts at $79,990, while the R1S starts at $83,990. Both prices exclude the $1,895 destination fee.
Rivian has also made the updated R1T and R1S available for configuration through its website, giving customers access to the revised trims, new colors, interior options and updated equipment.
A More Competitive R1 Lineup
The 2027 updates address several areas that Rivian customers have been asking the company to improve. The R1S gains a more versatile seating configuration, the R1T receives a new wheel-and-tire combination, and both models benefit from revised interiors and a simplified naming structure.
At the same time, Rivian’s decision to lower the starting price by $1,895 gives the R1T and R1S a slightly more accessible position after the previous pricing changes.
With more than 1,000 horsepower available in the Quad, long-range configurations exceeding 400 miles and a broader range of interior and equipment choices, the 2027 R1 lineup combines performance, range and practicality while making the buying process easier to understand.
