Ford has unveiled the Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible during Monterey Car Week, bringing the 795-horsepower supercharged V8 from the coupe into a roofless configuration. While the convertible is expected to sacrifice some torsional rigidity compared with the coupe, Ford has focused the new model on open-air driving without giving up the engine’s full performance output.
Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible Packs 795 HP
The Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 producing 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Ford describes the model as the “highest-performance Mustang convertible Ford has ever assembled.” The automaker says both the coupe and convertible were developed by Ford Racing, although the convertible has been tuned to deliver a smooth and comfortable cruising experience while remaining sharp through corners.
Ford has not provided acceleration or top-speed figures for the convertible. The automaker also makes no mention of the Track Pack available for the coupe, which adds carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fiber wheels and variable traction control.
Rather than focusing on track performance, the convertible is designed around the experience of driving with the roof down while retaining the headline output of the supercharged V8.
New Precision Purple Paint Joins the Lineup
Ford is giving the Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible several visual details designed to distinguish it from the coupe. The model introduces a new Precision Purple metallic paint finish along with silver brake calipers.
The interior combines Black Onyx and Space Gray accents to create additional contrast.
Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible Orders Open This Fall
Ford has not revealed pricing for the convertible. Orders are scheduled to open in the fall of this year, with deliveries planned to reach showrooms in spring 2027.
The Mustang Dark Horse SC coupe starts at $103,490 and can exceed $170,000 with options. The article expects the convertible to start around $110,000, although its final pricing has not been announced.
Ford Gives the Dark Horse SC a More Relaxed Character
The convertible retains the most important performance element of the Dark Horse SC: its supercharged V8 and 795-horsepower output. At the same time, Ford has chosen not to engineer the convertible to replicate the more hardcore characteristics of the coupe.
The result is a Mustang focused on open-top driving, with a more supple ride while maintaining the performance figures of the supercharged V8. Ford’s approach gives the Dark Horse SC Convertible a distinct character centered on style, sound and open-air driving.
