The Lexus GX550 could receive its first meaningful update less than two years after the redesigned SUV arrived in the U.S. market. The reported changes focus largely on comfort, convenience and standard equipment, with a few targeted updates for the off-road-focused Overtrail+ trim.

According to Japanese automotive website Creative Trend, Lexus is expected to announce the updated GX550 in Japan on September 24, with production scheduled to begin on October 1.

New Standard Features Reportedly Coming

The current-generation GX arrived in the U.S. in 2024 as a completely redesigned model, introducing a new body-on-frame platform, twin-turbo V6 power and a more rugged personality than its predecessor.

Now, Creative Trend reports that the September 2026 update will move several factory options into the standard-equipment list across the lineup. The website has built a reputation for publishing dealer-level updates ahead of official announcements.

Reported additions include:

  • Front and rear dashcam
  • Digital rearview mirror
  • Digital Key functionality
  • Hitch receiver with cover
  • Panoramic roof on some versions

Mark Levinson premium audio will reportedly remain an option rather than becoming standard equipment.

Rear-Seat Ventilation Could Finally Arrive

One of the more notable reported changes is the addition of rear-seat ventilation as standard equipment on some trims. The current GX already offers heated and ventilated front seats along with heated rear seats, but rear-seat cooling has been absent since launch.

That omission is particularly notable because the Toyota Land Cruiser 250, referred to as America’s Land Cruiser, already offers rear-seat ventilation on some variants in Japan.

GX550 Overtrail+ Gets Off-Road Tire Changes

The GX550 Overtrail+ is also reportedly receiving a small equipment change aimed at its off-road mission. Creative Trend says Lexus will replace its 18-inch all-season tires with 18-inch all-terrain tires.

The reported tire size will also change from 265/65R18 to 265/70R18. The slightly taller tire should improve ground clearance and better align with the OVERTRAIL+ model’s off-road positioning, although it could also result in more road noise and a different ride feel on pavement.

No Hybrid GX in This Update

Creative Trend also reports that the long-rumored hybrid GX will not be added to the lineup with this round of changes. The GX550’s existing 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 remains the powertrain on offer.

Will These Lexus GX550 Updates Reach the U.S.?

The reported changes are specifically tied to the Japanese-market GX550, so it remains unclear whether every update will reach North American models.

Still, the reported additions include practical equipment such as rear-seat ventilation, Digital Key functionality and more standard features. The report leaves open the possibility that at least some of these changes could eventually appear on U.S.-spec GX models.

Pricing Remains a Key Question

If Lexus brings the reported updates to the U.S., pricing will be an important consideration. Adding more standard equipment is beneficial for buyers, but the additional features can also lead to a higher sticker price.

The key issue would be whether Lexus absorbs the added equipment costs or passes them along to buyers if the updates eventually reach U.S.-spec GX models.
