Genesis posted strong August sales for its GV80 SUV, with both the standard model and fastback version gaining 3% from the previous month. The results add to a broader 3% improvement for the luxury brand compared with 2025, while Genesis prepares to introduce its first hybrid powertrain in the GV80.
GV80 Delivers a Strong August
Genesis separates sales of the GV80 into its standard and “coupe” versions, with the conventional SUV continuing to sell in much larger numbers. Both models recorded a 3% month-over-month increase in August, making it the best month yet for the SUV.
Genesis sold 2,350 regular GV80s in August, 70 more than during August 2025. The fastback recorded 361 sales, up 11 from the same month last year.
Through the year so far, the conventional GV80 has reached 15,731 units, while the fastback has recorded 2,516. The regular model is up 7%, or 1,003 units, while the fastback has increased 6%, or 145 units.
The GV80 remains Genesis’ second-best-selling model behind the GV70, while the fastback ranks fourth among the brand’s bestsellers.
How Other Genesis Models Performed
The G80 sedan was the only other Genesis model to post a month-over-month sales increase in August. Sales rose 17%, from 322 units during the same month last year to 376 this month. Despite the August gain, the G80 is down 4% for the year.
The largest sales decline came from the Electrified G80, but the model was discontinued, leaving essentially no new examples available for sale.
Among Genesis models that remain on sale, the Electrified GV70 recorded the biggest month-over-month decline, falling 70%. Its sales for the year are down 90%.
The G90 flagship sedan and GV60 electric SUV both declined for the month and the year. The GV70 and G70 were down for the month but remain up for the year.
Genesis’ three bestsellers are the GV70, GV80 and G70. The GV70 leads the brand with 23,659 sales, a 13% increase over last year. Its performance has helped contribute to Genesis’ overall 3% improvement over 2025.
Genesis Prepares to Add Hybrid Powertrains
Electric vehicle sales have declined across the board, including at Genesis. While the brand’s new halo model is an EV, it could eventually receive a range-extender powertrain.
In the meantime, Genesis plans to expand its powertrain lineup with hybrid options. The first will be introduced imminently with the GV80 Hybrid.
The new powertrain uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 347 horsepower and is expected to deliver a 25% improvement in fuel economy.
The system also eliminates the need for a reverse gear by using an electric motor to move the vehicle backward. The new powertrain arrives as hybrid demand is booming due to rising gas prices.
For Genesis, the GV80’s August performance provides positive sales momentum as the brand continues expanding its lineup and prepares to add hybrid technology to one of its key models.
