The 2027 Hyundai Kona is arriving with nearly unchanged pricing, giving U.S. buyers another affordable small crossover option as vehicle prices continue to rise. Hyundai has also made only minor changes to the carryover model ahead of the expected 2028 Kona reveal.
2027 Hyundai Kona Pricing Stays Nearly Flat
Hyundai remains one of the few automakers investing in small cars in America, while sedans and compact crossovers continue to drive impressive sales. The Kona, an alternative to the Mazda CX-30 and Toyota Corolla Cross, enters the 2027 model year with pricing as one of its strongest advantages.
The biggest change from 2026 is a $50 increase in destination charges, which now total $1,650. The MSRP itself remains unchanged across the lineup.
That means the 2027 Hyundai Kona starts at $25,500 for the SE FWD, while the SEL Sport FWD carries a $26,825 sticker price. Both trims use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT automatic gearbox.
Higher trims receive a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine producing 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The SEL Premium remains priced at $28,425, while the range-topping Limited is the only Kona trim above $30,000, with a price of $32,535. All trims offer all-wheel drive as a $1,500 option.
What Changes for the 2027 Hyundai Kona?
Hyundai officially classifies the 2027 Kona as a carryover model, although the lineup does receive a few minor updates.
The SE trim drops Idle Stop and Go (ISG), reflecting a shift in US legislation that no longer requires the technology. The SEL Premium also loses its ambient lighting, leaving that feature exclusive to the Limited trim.
Buyers have limited options beyond the choice of drivetrain and several premium paint colors available for $500. Those colors are Cyber Gray Metallic, Ultimate Red Metallic, Soultronic Orange Pearl, and Neoteric Yellow.
A small selection of accessories is also available, but otherwise there are few additional choices for 2027 buyers.
Kona Serves as a Bridge to the Next Generation
The carryover 2027 Hyundai Kona is positioned as a stopgap model, with a 2028 Kona expected to be revealed early in 2027 at the latest. The current model is also likely to have slightly limited availability to avoid leaving too many vehicles on dealer lots ahead of the third generation’s arrival.
While the changes to the 2027 model are limited, affordable vehicles such as the Kona remain important as gas prices are inflated and new-car buyers extend the length of their car loans. Keeping most Kona trims below $30,000 represents a significant achievement for Hyundai.
Hyundai Kona Sales Remain Significant in the U.S.
The Kona continues to be an important model for Hyundai in the U.S. market despite a 9% decrease in sales this year.
As of the end of August, 48,374 American families had purchased a new Kona. That figure is nearly double the number of Venue crossovers sold during the same period and almost as many Hyundai Sonata sedans were sold.
With largely unchanged pricing, limited updates and most trims remaining below $30,000, the 2027 Hyundai Kona continues Hyundai’s focus on offering an affordable small crossover in the U.S. market.
