The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport is getting more than a rugged appearance for the new model year. Honda has comprehensively reworked the midsize SUV’s suspension, raising ground clearance to 9.65 inches, an increase of 1.38 inches from last year, and says the figure now edges out the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road.

Nearly 70 Percent of Suspension Components Redesigned

Honda’s changes go well beyond simply installing taller springs. Nearly 70 percent of the suspension’s major components have been redesigned, including the springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars and knuckles.

The front driveshafts and subframe were also reworked to support the additional ride height and wheel travel. In total, 28 suspension and chassis parts are new or have been reengineered for 2027.

Improved Geometry for Off-Road Driving

The suspension changes also improve the Passport TrailSport’s off-road geometry. Approach and departure angles both increase to 25 degrees, up two degrees, while the breakover angle improves by three degrees to 23 degrees.

Those changes are designed to provide more clearance over rutted trails and greater confidence when approaching steep terrain. Honda also says the revised setup delivers improved steering feel on the road, maintaining the Passport’s everyday drivability while adding more trail capability.

TrailWatch Now Standard Across the TrailSport Lineup

Honda is also expanding the Passport TrailSport’s technology and equipment. TrailWatch, previously available only on the TrailSport Elite, is now standard across the TrailSport lineup.

The system provides front, rear, side and 360-degree views, along with tire-placement graphics. A heated steering wheel is also now standard across the TrailSport lineup.

The exterior receives a tougher look as well, with more pronounced fender flares, a resculpted front fascia and amber hood scoop lights that echo the Passport’s signature amber daytime running lights.

The Blackout Package adds black fascias and new black lower skid garnishes.

Honda Doubles Down on the TrailSport

TrailSport models already represented more than 80 percent of Passport sales as of mid-2026, making the trim an important part of Honda’s strategy for the SUV.

For 2027, Honda is backing up the TrailSport’s rugged styling with a substantially reworked suspension, increased ground clearance, improved off-road geometry and expanded technology designed to make trail driving easier.
