Leaked images of the next Mercedes-AMG Mythos model have surfaced online, revealing an aggressively styled super coupe believed to be based on the CLE Coupe. Rumored to be called the CLE 646 Mythos, the extremely limited-edition sports car is expected to pair dramatic styling with a flat-plane-crank V8.
The Second Mythos Model Looks Ready for the Track
Mythos is an extra-special vehicle development program within Mercedes-AMG, creating even more extreme performance cars such as the roofless PureSpeed concept. That model was based on the architecture of the SL 63 roadster and received more extreme styling and performance upgrades.
The second Mythos product was previously suspected to be based on the CLE-Class, although it was unclear whether Mercedes-AMG might instead use its Black Series designation. The source of the leaked images now suggests the high-performance CLE will carry the Mythos name.
A Mercedes-Benz enthusiast forum has also suggested that the rumored CLE 646 name refers to the car’s power output. According to the report, that power would come from a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 featuring a flat-plane crank.
The engine is likely based on the same basic powerplant used in the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, where it produces 603 horsepower. The Mythos team appears to have made additional changes to the V8 before fitting it into the CLE’s body shell.
Aggressive Styling Sets the CLE 646 Apart
Mercedes-AMG’s in-house development team has also transformed the car’s exterior. The front features a large grille designed to draw cooling air toward the engine, along with intricate vents and fins intended to cool the brakes, provide downforce and smooth airflow before it affects the car’s drag coefficient.
A prominent hood-mounted scoop adds another distinctive element. Its design appears similar to the scoop used on a WRX STI, while also serving to help keep the V8 cool.
The headlights feature Mercedes’ latest star-shaped running light design and flow toward massive front fenders. Each front fender incorporates a vent whose shape and internal fluting resemble those found on the Mustang GTD.
At the rear, the fender extensions are even more aggressive than those on the CLE 53. A towering rear wing, stacked quad exhausts and a deep rear diffuser complete an especially brutal rear design.
Only 30 CLE 646 Mythos Cars Could Be Built
The reported production numbers make the CLE 646 Mythos exceptionally rare. According to South African news outlet Zero2Turbo, Mercedes-AMG’s newest Mythos model will be limited to 30 units, with each carrying a price tag of more than $1 million.
That would make the second Mythos model even rarer than the PureSpeed, which is planned to have a production run of 250 units for about the same price.
The CLE 646 Mythos would also be more exclusive than several Black Series predecessors, including the 2008 CLK 63, which was limited to 500 units, and the 2009 SL 65, with 350 units.
It would also surpass the rarity of the roughly 1,500 AMG GT Black Series cars built half a decade ago, putting the rumored CLE 646 Mythos among Mercedes-AMG’s most limited high-performance models.
