The Czinger 21C may be heading to Germany sooner than expected as the American supercar builder appears to be testing one of its cars at the Nürburgring, according to an Instagram video. The move could mark an early step toward challenging the track’s current production-car lap record.

Czinger 21C Appears To Be Testing in Germany

Czinger has already built a reputation for extreme designs, massive power and racetrack performance. The company recently toppled Koenigsegg’s lap record at Laguna Seca and has also set records at several other tracks.

That record-setting run has raised questions about when Czinger would attempt the Nürburgring. Just last month, the company said it could be a whole year before making a record run, suggesting its cars might not return to the track until early next year.

However, an Instagram video appears to show a yellow Czinger 21C in Germany. The car was being driven at a relatively easy pace, indicating that the footage likely shows testing rather than an actual record attempt.

Before attempting to set a new record, Czinger and its drivers will need to practice and become familiar with the track and how the 21C performs there.

What the Czinger 21C Is Up Against

Although Koenigsegg has become something of a rival to Czinger following the Laguna Seca record, the Swedish automaker is not the target at the Nürburgring.

The current record-holder at the track is Mercedes. The Mercedes-AMG One recorded a lap time of 6 minutes and 29 seconds, finishing a full 14 seconds ahead of the next-fastest car, a Manthey-tuned Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

The AMG One produces a total of 1,049 horsepower from an F1-derived 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 hybrid system powering the rear wheels, along with two electric motors powering the front wheels. It can reach 218 mph and features advanced active suspension and aerodynamics.

Czinger 21C Brings 1,250 Horsepower

The Czinger 21C uses a similar powertrain layout but brings more displacement and cylinders. Its twin-turbocharged 2.88-liter V8 hybrid powers the rear wheels, while two electric motors power the front wheels.

Together, the system produces 1,250 horsepower. The 21C has a 205-mph top speed, slightly below the Mercedes-AMG One, but its design places a strong emphasis on aerodynamic downforce.

At 150 mph, the 21C generates more than 3,000 pounds of downforce. That could be particularly useful on a winding course with significant elevation changes.

Czinger’s records at Laguna Seca, Goodwood and the Circuit of the Americas have already demonstrated the 21C’s racetrack capabilities. The appearance of a car in Germany suggests the company may be taking another step toward putting those capabilities to the test at the Nürburgring.
