The BMW iX3 is quickly becoming a key model for the automaker’s Neue Klasse electric vehicle strategy, with 100,000 orders in Europe prompting BMW to ramp up production at its Debrecen plant in Hungary.

BMW iX3 Production Moves to Three Shifts

BMW’s Debrecen facility now operates around the clock with three shifts as demand for the iX3 continues to build. Production began in October 2025, followed by the addition of a second shift in February 2026.

BMW said the plant achieved the quickest production ramp-up of any new facility in the company’s history.

Strong demand has also been reported in the U.S. Deliveries have already begun, with BMW reportedly allowing dealers to start handing over iX3 vehicles nine days earlier than planned.

Neue Klasse Sets the Direction for BMW EVs

The demand for the iX3 suggests that BMW’s Neue Klasse overhaul is gaining traction with buyers. The iX3 is the first model built on the platform, combining an 800-volt architecture with a new design language that also influences non-EV models, including the 2027 X5.

BMW also reached its two-millionth EV delivery milestone last month. The total dates back to the original i3 in 2013, when the model was still a hatchback.

The automaker said the Neue Klasse is now providing additional momentum for its electric vehicle sales.

BMW iX3 Production Plans for the U.S.

iX3 models destined for the U.S. are currently produced in Hungary, but BMW plans to begin building the vehicle at its San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico in 2027. There has been no confirmation yet on whether U.S.-bound examples will eventually be sourced from that facility.

BMW has also developed a long-wheelbase iX3 for China. That version has a wheelbase extended by 108 mm, or about 4.3 inches.

BMW iX3 U.S. Specs and Pricing

In the U.S., the BMW iX3 starts at $61,500 before destination. It is offered with a dual-motor setup producing 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque.

Using a fast DC charger, the iX3 can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. The EV has an EPA-estimated range of up to 434 miles on a single charge.

More Neue Klasse Models Are Coming

The iX3’s sedan counterpart, the i3, began production last month at BMW’s Munich plant in Germany. The model is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in 2027.

Another Neue Klasse model on the way is the electric M3, which is due in 2027 and will become M’s first fully electric model based on the next-generation architecture.

The electric M3 is confirmed to use a four-motor setup, although BMW has not announced its horsepower figures. The automaker is not pursuing a four-digit output figure, but the four-motor configuration is still expected to provide another major showcase for the Neue Klasse platform.
