The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing could return for a second generation, according to a new report indicating the high-performance sedan is in development. If the report proves accurate, Cadillac would continue offering its flagship combustion-powered performance sedan even as the brand expands its electric vehicle lineup.
Second-Generation CT5-V Blackwing Reportedly in the Pipeline
According to GM Authority, citing inside sources, Cadillac is developing a second-generation CT5-V Blackwing. The current model remains America’s last traditional V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan available with a manual transmission, making it a distinctive option for enthusiasts.
The reported successor would continue the Blackwing nameplate into the next generation of the CT5, although Cadillac has not officially confirmed the vehicle.
Updated Platform Could Support a Manual Transmission
While specific details remain limited, the next-generation CT5 is expected to ride on the updated Alpha 2-2 platform. The same architecture is also reportedly set to underpin the returning Chevrolet Camaro.
Because the Camaro is expected to offer a manual transmission, the report suggests the next CT5-V Blackwing could also retain a stick shift. Cadillac, however, has not confirmed whether the upcoming model will be available with a manual gearbox.
Current CT5-V Blackwing Performance
Cadillac has not revealed any powertrain details for the reported successor. The current CT5-V Blackwing is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque.
The performance sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds when equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission and 3.6 seconds with the 6-speed manual.
Combustion Performance Continues Alongside EV Expansion
The CT5-V Blackwing’s formula of supercharged V8 power, rear-wheel drive, and a manual transmission stands apart as more performance sedans move toward electrified powertrains. The report notes that a fully electric CT5 successor is unlikely because the Alpha 2-2 platform is primarily designed around a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive combustion layout.
Meanwhile, Cadillac’s smaller CT4 reached the end of production in June 2026, with no successor announced. Its departure leaves the automaker without an entry-level combustion sedan as it continues expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the Optiq, Lyriq, and Vistiq.
Although Cadillac has yet to officially confirm the next-generation CT5-V Blackwing, the report indicates the company’s flagship performance sedan could continue into a new generation while preserving its combustion-powered heritage.
