Subaru has released full specifications and pricing for the updated Levorg Layback Hybrid in Japan, expanding the lineup with a new electrified powertrain. The high-riding wagon, positioned between the Crosstrek and Forester, continues a formula that is no longer available in Subaru’s North American lineup.
Subaru Expands the Levorg Layback Lineup
While Subaru’s latest Outback has evolved into a more SUV-like vehicle, Japan continues to offer the Levorg Layback, a model based on the Impreza that serves as a high-riding wagon.
The updated Levorg Layback now adds a hybrid variant. Subaru Japan has confirmed a simplified lineup consisting of two hybrid trims: the Premium Black and the Premium. Despite its name, the Premium Black serves as the entry-level model.
Pricing Starts Below $30,000
The Levorg Layback Hybrid starts at ¥4,246,000 for the Premium Black, while the Premium is priced at ¥4,521,000. That equates to approximately $26,000 to $28,000.
Buyers can also choose a non-hybrid version. Pricing begins at ¥4,059,000 for the Limited EX and rises to ¥4,246,000 for the Black Selection, or roughly just under $25,000 to just over $26,000.
Standard Features Across the Lineup
The Levorg Layback comes equipped with Subaru’s full EyeSight driver-assistance suite as standard.
Standard equipment also includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power tailgate, power-adjustable seats with memory, and connected services.
Hybrid and Turbocharged Powertrains
The hybrid model is powered by a 2.5-liter boxer engine paired with a single electric motor and a compact battery. Subaru uses the same hybrid system found in the Forester Hybrid, producing a combined 194 horsepower, while the electric motor delivers 199 lb-ft of torque.
The non-hybrid Levorg Layback is equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine rated at 174 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque.
All-wheel drive is standard on every version.
Available Only in Japan
The Levorg Layback is currently offered only in Japan, where it occupies a position between the Crosstrek and Forester. Although its starting price is higher than the Forester’s, the hybrid model costs less than the electrified Forester.
According to the available information, offering the Levorg Layback in the United States would place it close in price to other Subaru models. Japan remains the only market where the model is sold, reflecting continued demand for wagon-style vehicles.
