The Brabus Rocket 900 Edition Cabrio transforms the Mercedes-Benz G 63 into a 900-horsepower open-roof performance SUV, combining the W465-generation G-Class with extensive powertrain, suspension and body modifications.
While Brabus Rocket models are typically based on sedans, the Rocket 900 Edition Cabrio takes a different approach. Based on the AMG-spec G-Wagen, the SUV receives a convertible roof and a series of upgrades designed to turn the off-road-oriented vehicle into a high-performance road machine.
Brabus Rocket 900 Cabrio Gets 24-Inch Wheels
The Rocket 900 Edition Cabrio rides on 12-inch-wide Platinum Edition 24-inch wheels featuring an evolution of the iconic Brabus Monoblock II three-spoke design from the late 1980s.
The wheels are wrapped in Hankook performance tires, while a Brabus RideControl aluminum coilover suspension system with integrated cooling elements is designed to help maintain consistent tire contact with the road.
The suspension modifications also reduce the ride height by up to 45 millimeters, or 1.77 inches. Despite the changes, the G-Class can still be taken off-road.
AMG V8 Upgraded to 900 Horsepower
Brabus extensively upgrades the AMG twin-turbocharged V8 to produce the Rocket 900 Edition Cabrio’s 900 horsepower. Engine displacement increases from 4.0 liters to 4.5 liters, while the engine receives matching forged pistons.
The turbochargers have also been replaced with larger compressor units capable of generating a maximum boost pressure of 1.4 bar.
Brabus BoostXtra valves add the turbo blow-off noises associated with the upgraded turbocharged setup.
How the Brabus 900 Rocket Cabrio Roof Works
The cabriolet conversion uses a two-piece soft-top construction made from more than 500 components. Brabus developed the system to remain quiet, keep weather out and allow the roof to be raised or lowered quickly.
A key component is a carbon-fiber roof bow integrated into the front section of the folding roof. It is designed to maintain the roof’s shape even at high speeds.
Behind it, a steel “C-BOW” roll bar is integrated into the modified bodywork and covered externally with exposed carbon fiber. The structure secures the rear section of the roof.
When the roof is folded away, it fits behind the rear seats under a tailor-made tonneau cover, completing the open-roof conversion of the 900-horsepower G-Class.
