Ariel is preparing to bring its lightweight sports cars and off-road vehicles to the U.S. market next year, offering American buyers an alternative to more expensive niche performance cars. The UK-based automaker plans to introduce its entire lineup through Forman Motorworks, with the Ariel Atom 4 expected to start at around $117,000 after installation of a Honda Civic Type R engine.

For the first time since the fourth-generation Ariel Atom arrived in 2018, the company plans to sell rolling chassis in the United States through a local partner. Vehicles will arrive without engines or transmissions, allowing customers to work with the importer to source and install a powertrain.

Ariel Plans to Bring Its Entire Lineup to America

Ariel and Forman Motorworks plan to introduce several models to the U.S. market, including the Atom 4, the track-focused Atom 4R and Atom 4RR, and the Nomad 2 off-road vehicle.

Each vehicle will arrive at Forman’s shop in Scottsdale, Arizona, without an engine or transmission. The arrangement is expected to operate under the U.S. provision that allows low-volume manufacturers to sell vehicles in kit form.

Forman, which works directly with Ariel in the United Kingdom, will offer the Atom 4 rolling chassis for $91,500, including $5,500 in destination charges. The base price before destination is $86,000.

The Atom 4R will start at $130,800, while the second-generation Nomad 2 will cost $97,500 after destination charges but before engine installation. The chassis will be built to order in the UK, shipped to Forman and prepared for sale and final assembly.

Purchasing and installing a Honda Civic Type R engine is estimated to cost around $25,000. The Atom 4’s expected starting price rises to approximately $117,000 once the engine has been installed. Whether Forman will offer fully assembled vehicles or sell only rolling chassis before completing the powertrain installation remains unclear.

Ariel Atom 4: Lightweight Performance

The Ariel Atom 4 is the lineup’s entry-level model and features a minimalist design built around two seats, an open-wheel layout and a sturdy tubular chassis with very little bodywork.

Weighing just 1,350 pounds, the Atom 4 uses a 315-horsepower Honda Civic Type R engine. Ariel says the combination can accelerate the car from zero to 60 mph in about 3 seconds.

Power is delivered through a six-speed manual transmission, while the car’s inboard suspension helps manage its handling on the road.

Ariel Atom 4R Adds Track-Focused Upgrades

The Atom 4R builds on the Atom 4’s lightweight design with additional aerodynamic and cooling features. Its nose cone, rear spoiler and side pods generate downforce, giving the car the appearance of a compact Formula One-style racer.

An enlarged radiator and intercooler help manage engine temperatures as the specially tuned Honda powertrain produces 400 horsepower. The engine sends power through a six-speed sequential gearbox.

These upgrades distinguish the Atom 4R as a more motorsports-oriented option within Ariel’s U.S. lineup.

Ariel Atom 4RR Brings Carbon Fiber and Racing Hardware

The Atom 4RR takes the performance-focused approach further with carbon-fiber bodywork and a bronze-welded chassis designed to improve strength without increasing weight.

The model also features fully adjustable twin-tube dampers from Öhlins, adding to its track-focused setup. Ariel has not published a starting price for the limited-production Atom 4RR, so interested buyers will need to contact Forman directly for pricing information.

Ariel Nomad 2 Offers an Off-Road Alternative

The Ariel Nomad 2 takes the company’s lightweight vehicle concept in a different direction, with an off-road design featuring substantial ground clearance and steep approach and departure angles.

An adjustable Öhlins suspension system designed for off-road use comes standard. The Nomad 2 also rides on all-terrain tires and sits considerably higher than the Atom 4.

With the Nomad 2, Ariel is expanding its U.S. offering beyond minimalist sports cars to include a vehicle designed for off-road driving.

Ariel’s U.S. Arrival Expands Options for Performance Buyers

Ariel’s planned U.S. launch will bring four distinct vehicles to American customers, ranging from the road-focused Atom 4 to the more specialized Atom 4R and 4RR and the off-road Nomad 2.

With chassis prices starting at $91,500 for the Atom 4 before engine installation, the lineup will offer buyers a range of lightweight performance vehicles through Forman Motorworks, with final costs depending on the model and powertrain configuration.
