Ford has agreed to a class-action settlement that could pay eligible owners and lessees of the Ford Transit Trail $6,000 per vehicle over alleged wheel and tire clearance problems. The lawsuit claims the adventure-focused van’s 30.5-inch all-terrain tires can rub against the wheel-well liners under certain driving conditions.

Ford Transit Trail Settlement Addresses Tire Clearance Issues

The Ford Transit Trail was marketed as an adventure-ready camper van, featuring a 3.5-inch suspension lift, a 2.5-inch wider track width, skid plates, tow hooks and exterior cladding.

However, the class-action lawsuit alleged that the vehicle did not provide sufficient clearance for its 30.5-inch all-terrain tires. Under certain conditions, the tires could rub against the fender liners while turning, braking or carrying passengers and equipment.

A recall was issued in March 2024 over what was described as “insufficient packaging allowance” for the front tires.

Customers paid $12,500 for the Transit Trail package, making the alleged fitment issue a significant concern for owners who expected the van to be ready for outdoor adventures.

Eligible Ford Transit Trail Owners Could Receive $6,000

The settlement covers qualifying original owners and lessees of the Ford Transit Trail. To be eligible, individuals must have been the first owner or lessee and acquired the vehicle through an authorized dealer, outfitter, upfitter or another intermediary that obtained it for resale or conversion.

People who purchased a used Ford Transit Trail are excluded from the settlement. Individuals who have already filed a lawsuit over the same issue are also excluded.

However, original owners or lessees who purchased or leased a Ford Transit Trail before June 1, 2024, may still qualify even if they no longer own the vehicle.

How to Claim the Ford Transit Trail Settlement

Eligible class members must submit a valid claim form by January 15, 2027, along with the required documentation and proof of vehicle ownership or lease.

Those who meet the requirements can receive a $6,000 payment per vehicle.

Claims can be submitted through the class settlement website. Payments will be issued by check after the court decides whether to grant final approval to the settlement.

Settlement Approval Hearing Set for March 2027

The court is scheduled to hold a hearing on March 16, 2027, to consider final approval of the Ford Transit Trail class-action settlement.

Settlement funds will become available after approval and the resolution of any appeals.

The proposed $6,000 payment offers eligible customers compensation for the alleged wheel-clearance problems affecting the Ford Transit Trail’s off-road-focused package.
