Chevrolet has offered a first look at the 2027 Chevy Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV), a pursuit-rated pickup designed for demanding law enforcement work. Building on the foundation of the 2023 Silverado PPV, the new model features updated front-end styling and heavy-duty interior features designed to accommodate bulky utility belts and complex radio systems.
A Patrol Truck Built for Heavy-Duty Work
As police departments move away from traditional sedans and toward larger trucks, the Silverado PPV is positioned as a versatile fleet option. Full-size pickups can clear curbs, transport hundreds of pounds of tactical gear and withstand the demands of daily patrol duty.
The 2027 model comes equipped with heavy-duty steel wheels, 16-inch Brembo brakes and a standard locking rear differential. These features are intended to support demanding municipal use.
5.3-Liter V8 Engine and 10-Speed Transmission
Chevrolet is sticking with a traditional internal-combustion powertrain for the Silverado PPV, rather than introducing an electric option for highway patrol units that require sustained power and rapid refueling.
The truck is powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine producing 355 horsepower. It is paired with a heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission and a high-capacity alternator designed to keep emergency lighting and communications equipment running throughout long shifts.
Reliability remains a key consideration for fleet managers seeking to reduce vehicle downtime. Reports of unexpected mechanical issues affecting some police Dodge Durangos have highlighted the importance of proven powertrain options.
112-Mph Pursuit-Rated Performance
The Silverado PPV features a specially tuned suspension that lowers the truck’s ride height to improve high-speed stability. The vehicle is pursuit-rated for a top speed of 112 mph.
It has undergone independent testing to assess its ability to handle aggressive cornering and extreme braking without excessive brake fade.
Unlike civilian performance vehicles that may be restricted by departmental policies, the Silverado PPV is engineered and warrantied for operation at its mechanical limits during active pursuits. Its combination of heavy-duty utility and pursuit-rated performance gives law enforcement departments a purpose-built pickup for patrol duties.
