Ford is celebrating 125 years of racing heritage with the R125 Mustang, a modified 1966 Fastback that combines classic styling with modern performance hardware. The project showcases performance upgrades designed for enthusiasts building and customizing classic Mustangs.
The R125 Mustang will debut at the 2026 SEMA Show as part of Ford Racing’s 125th anniversary celebration, highlighting the possibilities of pairing vintage muscle car design with contemporary performance components.
R125 Mustang Features Racing-Inspired Design
The project begins with the familiar body of a 1966 Mustang Fastback, retaining its classic proportions while incorporating distinctive racing-inspired details.
A black exterior serves as the foundation for bold red and gold accents. Large R125 graphics and a prominent Ford Racing badge extend along the sides, while gold wheels add contrast to the dark paintwork.
The front end receives its own R125-themed treatment, while Ford Racing lettering across the rear panel reinforces the project’s motorsport identity.
Despite its aggressive appearance, the car remains recognizable as a classic 1966 Mustang. The graphics and contrasting colors distinguish it as an anniversary tribute rather than a conventional restoration.
Interior details have not been revealed, leaving the exterior styling and mechanical upgrades as the primary focus.
Ford R125 Mustang Delivers 360 Horsepower
Under the hood, the R125 Mustang features a 347-cubic-inch crate V8 producing 360 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.
The engine combines a Ford Racing Boss block, aluminum heads and an Edelbrock Pro-Flo electronic fuel injection system, blending traditional V8 performance with modern fuel delivery technology.
The fuel injection setup replaces the original-style carburetor configuration, giving the classic engine a more practical setup for drivers who want to enjoy the car on the road.
Power is sent to the wheels through a Tremec TKX-600 five-speed manual transmission. The gearbox offers improved strength and smoother operation compared with the older TKO, while its compact design makes it suitable for performance-focused builds.
Custom Ford Racing Parts Complete the Build
The R125 Mustang also features two-piece valve covers with interchangeable tops, O-ring seals and integrated ignition wire looms.
These components add distinctive details to the engine while showcasing the customization options available for classic Mustang projects.
R125 Mustang Set for 2026 SEMA Show Debut
The R125 Mustang will take center stage at the 2026 SEMA Show as part of Ford Racing’s 125th anniversary celebration.
The car is not planned for dealership sales, and no pricing has been announced. Instead, the project demonstrates how enthusiasts can use performance components from the Ford Racing Parts catalog to create their own customized classic Mustangs.
With its 1966 Fastback styling, 360-horsepower V8 and racing-inspired design, the R125 Mustang celebrates Ford’s motorsport heritage through a modern take on a classic muscle car.
