2027 Toyota Crown Debuts With Hybrid Upgrades and New Platinum Features

The 2027 Toyota Crown arrives with updated hybrid technology, refreshed styling, expanded standard equipment, and new performance enhancements across its lineup. Toyota said the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades now feature the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), while the Platinum grade continues with the 340-horsepower Hybrid MAX powertrain and additional premium features.

2027 Toyota Crown Adds Hybrid and Performance Upgrades

Announced in Plano, Texas, on July 23, 2026, the 2027 Toyota Crown continues to blend the comfort of a premium sedan with the elevated stance of a crossover. The model is offered in four grades: XLE, Limited, Nightshade, and Platinum, with standard all-wheel drive across the lineup.

For 2027, the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades receive Toyota’s fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) and now include standard paddle shifters designed to provide a more engaging driving experience.

The Platinum grade remains powered by Toyota’s Hybrid MAX system, combining a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with a direct-shift six-speed automatic transmission. The system delivers 340 net combined horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.

Exterior Styling Receives New Design Elements

The 2027 Toyota Crown features a newly sculpted rear bumper across the lineup, giving the vehicle a more refined appearance.

A new exterior color called Inked joins the available palette, alongside Oxygen White, Bronze Age, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red, and Storm Cloud. Toyota also updated the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) badging with a Satin finish.

On the Platinum grade, standard equipment now includes red brake calipers and a black belt window surround. Its bi-tone paint scheme has also been revised with a body-colored trunk paired with a black roof and sweeping roofline. The bi-tone finish is available with Oxygen White, Heavy Metal, Finish Line Red, or Bronze Age.

The Nightshade grade further emphasizes its dark-themed appearance with new black badge overlays.

Expanded Interior Features and Luxury

The Limited grade now offers full Saddle Tan seating, while Saddle Tan is also available as a new interior option on the Platinum grade. Buyers can pair the Saddle Tan interior with the Bronze Age exterior color.

Standard cabin features include leather-trimmed seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a wireless Qi charger, and multiple USB-C ports.

Limited, Nightshade, and Platinum grades receive a fixed panoramic moonroof as standard. The Limited and Platinum grades also include a Panoramic View Monitor, while the Platinum adds a Head-Up Display and a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel.

Hybrid Systems and All-Wheel Drive

The XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades use THS 5, pairing a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with front and rear electric motors. Toyota estimates these models achieve 40 mpg combined.

THS 5 uses a continuously variable transmission and an electronically controlled braking system that coordinates regenerative and hydraulic braking to recover electrical energy.

Electronic On-Demand AWD is standard on the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades, using a rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. The Platinum grade features Full-Time Electronic AWD with an eAxle, continuously adjusting power distribution between the front and rear wheels.

Selectable Drive Modes and Suspension

All grades include selectable drive modes consisting of Normal, Eco, Sport, and Custom. The Platinum grade additionally offers Rear Comfort mode, which adjusts suspension-related settings to prioritize rear-seat comfort.

The Crown’s chassis uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear suspension. Swing valve shock absorbers are equipped on the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade grades.

The Platinum grade features Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), tuned for the 2.4-liter turbo hybrid powertrain to balance steering response, stability, and comfort across drive modes. Electronically controlled braking with Active Cornering Assist also helps reduce understeer in certain cornering situations.

Technology, Multimedia, and Connected Services

Every 2027 Toyota Crown includes a standard 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen with Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto compatibility.

The XLE grade comes with a six-speaker audio system. Limited, Nightshade, and Platinum models receive an 11-speaker JBL Premium Audio system with a rear subwoofer and an 8-channel amplifier.

Connected Services trials include five-year trials for Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect, a three-month Drive Connect trial, and a 30-day/3 GB Wi-Fi Connect trial. Limited and Platinum grades also support Digital Key with an active Remote Connect trial or subscription. These services are 4G network-dependent.
