Leaked Headlights Inspire New Kia Sportage Rendering
Following a recently leaked photo of the sixth-generation Kia Sportage, NYMammoth created a full digital rendering based on the undisguised production headlights.
The rendering depicts a crossover with a dramatically different appearance from the current model, replacing its familiar styling with a bold, vertically integrated lighting signature that differs from previous Kia designs.
New Interior Expected With Pleos Connect System
The next-generation Kia Sportage is expected to receive more than exterior styling changes when it arrives by the end of 2027.
Recent test vehicles indicate significant interior upgrades, including the addition of the Pleos Connect system, which is expected to provide a more seamless and technology-focused experience for drivers and passengers.
Hybrid Models to Lead the Powertrain Lineup
According to the Korean Car Blog, Kia plans to discontinue traditional internal combustion engine-only versions of the Sportage in markets including Europe and South Korea. Those regions are expected to receive only mild-hybrid, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants.
The United States, however, will continue to offer some conventional gasoline-powered engines as part of the lineup.
Kia is also expected to increase battery capacity and electric motor output to improve both performance and fuel efficiency across its hybrid models.
The plug-in hybrid version is designed to deliver a pure-electric driving range of up to 100 kilometers, providing additional flexibility for daily urban driving.
Hybrid Strategy Reflects Current Market Trends
The shift toward hybrid powertrains comes as demand for fully electric vehicles has temporarily slowed because of high purchase prices and concerns about charging infrastructure, while hybrid vehicle sales continue to grow.
Last year, Hyundai and Kia sold nearly 190,000 hybrid vehicles in the United States, representing a 52% increase from the previous year.
Sportage Remains Central to Kia’s Global Plans
As Kia’s best-selling model in North America and Europe, the Sportage remains a key part of the company’s global strategy.
Hyundai and Kia have also announced plans to introduce Extended Range Electric Vehicles in North America and China by 2027, supporting a broader transition toward electrification.
The sixth-generation Kia Sportage is scheduled for an official launch in the third quarter of 2027, with its hybrid-focused lineup expected to play a central role in the model’s next chapter.
