Hyundai recorded its strongest July sales performance in the United States, delivering 82,480 vehicles, a 4% increase from the same month last year. While SUVs continued to account for nearly three-quarters of total sales, the Hyundai Elantra emerged as one of the brand’s biggest success stories in 2026.

Hyundai sold 82,480 vehicles in the U.S. during July, marking the company’s best July sales performance on record and a 4% year-over-year increase.
Hybrid models continued to gain momentum during the month, while SUVs remained the backbone of Hyundai’s lineup, accounting for nearly three-quarters of total sales.
Hyundai Elantra Emerges as a Standout Performer
The Hyundai Elantra has become the brand’s second-best-selling vehicle in the United States this year, with 96,954 units sold year to date.
Elantra sales have increased 11% compared with last year, while July sales alone jumped 39%. The compact sedan has also moved ahead of two of Hyundai’s popular SUVs, the Santa Fe and the redesigned Palisade.
The Santa Fe recorded 77,376 year-to-date sales, while the Palisade reached 75,626 units. In a market that has long favored SUVs, the Elantra’s performance marks a notable achievement for a traditional sedan.
Sonata Also Delivers Strong Growth
The Hyundai Sonata has also posted solid results in 2026, with 42,275 vehicles sold so far this year, representing a 13% increase over last year.
July sales of the Sonata climbed 18%, while the Sonata Hybrid achieved its best July sales performance on record.
Tucson Remains Hyundai’s Best-Selling Vehicle
Despite the Elantra’s momentum, the Hyundai Tucson continues to lead the brand’s U.S. lineup with 137,326 vehicles sold year to date.
The Tucson also posted a 6% increase in sales this year. Meanwhile, the Santa Fe experienced a slight 2% decline, the Palisade rose 7%, the Venue recorded growth, and the Kona declined 8%.
Hybrid Models Continue to Drive Growth
Hyundai’s electrified lineup remained a major contributor to the company’s performance. July became Hyundai’s best month ever for hybrid vehicle sales, with overall hybrid sales increasing 35%.
The Elantra Hybrid, Sonata Hybrid, and Tucson Hybrid each recorded their best July sales results.
Battery-electric vehicle performance was mixed. The Ioniq 5 is down this year, while the Ioniq 6 continues to face challenges. The Hyundai Ioniq 9, however, has already doubled last year’s total sales, although July was not its strongest month.
Next-Generation Tucson Nears Arrival
The current Tucson remains Hyundai’s top-selling model, but the automaker is already testing its next-generation replacement, which is expected to debut later this year.
According to spy shots, the upcoming model is expected to feature a boxier exterior design, a redesigned cabin with a larger screen, a more upscale interior, and physical buttons.
