Ford has issued a new recall affecting nearly 50,000 F-Series pickup trucks after identifying a software issue that may obstruct the rearview camera image on the infotainment display. The latest action brings Ford’s total number of recalls in 2026 to 63, more than double the total of the next-highest automaker, according to the information provided.
Ford Recalls Nearly 50,000 F-Series Pickup Trucks
The recall covers 47,587 vehicles equipped with the SYNC infotainment system featuring an eight-inch display. According to the recall details, the affected models include:
- 2021-2023 Ford F-150: 24,408 vehicles
- 2023-2026 Ford F-250 Super Duty: 23,179 vehicles
Ford said the issue does not affect pickup trucks equipped with the larger 12-inch infotainment display.
Software Issue May Obstruct Rearview Camera Display
According to the recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a software error can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying properly when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
The report states:
“If a customer leaves the camera ‘Views’ menu open on the SYNC 4 screen and shifts the vehicle into Reverse, the menu overlay does not auto-dismiss. As a result, the menu persists on the screen and will remain on until either (a) the user selects a view or closes the menu, or (b) the vehicle is shifted to Drive and speed exceeds 5 mph.”
Based on the description in the report, drivers can still access the rearview camera image by manually closing the menu overlay.
What Ford Owners Should Do
Ford said interim owner notification letters will be mailed between Aug. 17 and Aug. 21. Remedy notification letters are scheduled to be sent between Sept. 21 and Oct. 23.
The automaker expects the software update that resolves the issue to become available sometime in September 2026.
Beginning July 31, owners can check whether their vehicle is included in the recall by entering their vehicle identification number on the NHTSA website. Owners may also contact Ford customer care at 1-866-436-7332 for additional information.
Until the software update becomes available, drivers are encouraged to use caution while reversing or manually close the “Views” menu so the rearview camera image appears as intended.
Ford Continues to Lead the Industry in 2026 Recalls
The latest action increases Ford’s recall total for 2026 to 63, extending its lead as the most-recalled automaker this year. According to the information provided, the company has said many of its recent recalls have been proactive efforts to correct potential issues before drivers experience them.
The Ford F-150 has been recalled frequently over the past five model years, although the information provided notes that the 2026 Ford F-150 currently has only one recall, fewer than recent model years.
