The Mazda CX-3 is set to return as part of the automaker’s lineup of affordable vehicles, and Mazda has now released the first teaser of the redesigned subcompact crossover. While the preview reveals only a shadowy silhouette, it offers an early look at a model expected to debut before its phased launch beginning in 2027.
Mazda Offers the First Look at the New CX-3
Mazda currently offers several budget-friendly models, including the Mazda3 sedan, Mazda3 hatchback, and the CX-30, which provides standard all-wheel drive at a starting price below $30,000. Those vehicles have performed well for the automaker this year, and the returning CX-3 is expected to join them.
Although the teaser reveals only the vehicle’s outline, it suggests the new CX-3 will take a different design direction from the Vision X-Concept shown at last year’s Japan Mobility Show.
Design Appears Closer to the CX-5
Based on the silhouette, the next-generation CX-3 appears to resemble a smaller version of the CX-5 rather than a shortened CX-30.
The teaser also suggests the redesigned crossover could be larger than its predecessor. The report notes that the Vision X-Concept’s styling could instead be reserved for a raised version of the Mazda2.
World Premiere Expected Ahead of 2027 Launch
The previous-generation Mazda CX-3 debuted in 2014 and remained on sale in select markets until this year. Although it received several facelifts during its production run, it did not undergo a major redesign over more than a decade.
Mazda has stated that the all-new CX-3 will be introduced in phases across ASEAN, Japan, and other markets beginning in 2027.
Thailand Production and Electrified Powertrains
The redesigned CX-3 will be built in Thailand. The report also notes that the vehicle could offer some level of electrification because the Thai facility will serve as Mazda’s manufacturing hub for hybrid vehicles in Asian markets and potentially worldwide.
According to Mazda’s timeline, the production model could be revealed as early as later this year or during the first half of 2027. If that schedule holds, the redesigned CX-3 could arrive as a 2028 model-year vehicle.
For now, Mazda has only previewed the upcoming crossover, while its phased rollout is scheduled to begin in 2027 across ASEAN, Japan, and other markets. The report notes that, because the vehicle will be manufactured in Thailand, its prospects for the U.S. market currently appear limited.
