The Lincoln Corsair is facing a class action lawsuit over its advertised flat-towing capability, after plaintiffs allege that Ford told owners the SUV could be flat towed when it actually could not. The lawsuit covers buyers and lessees of 2021-2025 Lincoln Corsair models in California.
Lincoln Corsair Flat-Towing Issue
Vehicles are designed to provide safe, reliable, comfortable and practical transportation, with differences between models often coming down to size, powertrain, design and specific features.
For some customers, a particular feature can play a major role in the decision to buy or lease a vehicle. According to the lawsuit, that may have been the case for some Lincoln Corsair owners who believed the SUV could be flat towed.
Flat towing involves attaching a vehicle to the back of an RV and towing it along during long-distance journeys. While it may be a specialized capability, the lawsuit says it is a feature that some buyers consider because of the RV market in the U.S.
Ford Notice Said Corsair Could Not Be Flat Towed
The 21-page lawsuit alleges that plaintiffs received a corrective service notice in February 2025 addressing the flat-towing issue.
According to the notice, the Lincoln Corsair’s digital user’s manual stated that the SUV could be used during flat towing. The notice said that information was incorrect and that the Corsair could not be flat towed at all.
The notice specifically warned that engaging the vehicle in a flat-tow setting could damage the powertrain. As a remedy, Ford offered to update the software to completely remove the mistakenly included flat-towing feature.
Lawsuit Claims No Safe Flat-Towing Fix
According to the lawsuit, the issue remains unresolved because Ford has not developed a fix that would allow the Lincoln Corsair to safely be flat towed.
The suit also alleges that the ability to flat tow the vehicle influenced the purchasing or leasing decisions of some customers who believed the Corsair had that capability.

The class action covers buyers and lessees of the Lincoln Corsair from model years 2021-2025 in California.
The lawsuit centers on the discrepancy between the Corsair’s digital user’s manual and its actual flat-towing capability, as well as the impact that information allegedly had on customers who purchased or leased the SUV.
