A 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition with just 7.9 miles on the odometer has become the most expensive Ford GT ever sold after fetching $2,101,000 on Bring a Trailer. The exceptionally preserved supercar is one of only 343 Heritage Edition examples built.
Just 7.9 Miles After Two Decades
The car’s exceptionally low mileage was a major factor in its record-setting sale. The Heritage Edition had traveled just 7.9 miles in two decades and features the instantly recognizable blue-and-orange Gulf-inspired livery.
Underneath, the Heritage Edition shares its mechanical specification with the regular Ford GT. It uses a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing 550 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque.
The car also includes optional BBS forged wheels and a McIntosh stereo. Ford built just over 4,000 first-generation GTs before production ended in 2006, with the second-generation model arriving in 2017.
Ford GT Sale More Than Doubles Heritage Average
The $2,101,000 final price stands well above typical first-generation Ford GT sales. Classic.com’s current data puts the average first-gen GT sale at around $535,000, while Heritage Edition examples average $945,000.
This particular car more than doubled the Heritage Edition average, with almost 1,800 comments posted on its Bring a Trailer auction listing.
The sale also included a half-car wall display made by Saleen that carries the same serial number as the GT.
Even at $2.1 million, the price places the Ford GT in a rarefied group of high-value performance cars. For considerably less money, a buyer could find a McLaren Senna GTR, while the same $2.1 million could have purchased a Bugatti Veyron.
The Ford GT’s Growing Collector Appeal
The Ford GT has attracted significant attention from collectors and enthusiasts, with owners including Jeremy Clarkson, whose GT changed hands earlier this year, and Doug DeMuro.
Ford has also continued to associate the GT name with extreme performance. Although the company no longer produces a road-going version, the track-only GT Mk IV recently became the fastest combustion-powered car around the Nürburgring with a 6:15.977 lap.
Ford is also developing a new Hypercar entrant for next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, which should share some DNA with the GT.
A 2000s Supercar Becomes a Seven-Figure Collectible
The $2.1 million sale demonstrates the value placed on exceptionally preserved examples of the first-generation Ford GT. As enthusiasts who once admired the GT on bedroom walls have grown more financially capable, cars from the 2000s are becoming increasingly valuable.
