The Luxeed RX, a new electric crossover developed by Chinese automaker Chery and tech company Huawei, draws heavily from the design and proportions of the Ferrari Purosangue while targeting a dramatically lower price. The electric SUV is expected to cost around RMB 253,500, or approximately $37,000, compared with more than $400,000 for a new Ferrari Purosangue.
Luxeed RX Design Sparks Ferrari Controversy
The Luxeed RX features exterior styling that closely echoes the exotic Italian crossover, continuing a long-standing pattern of design mimicry in the global automotive industry.
The controversy intensified in June 2026 when a Luxeed executive claimed on Weibo that the company had hired a “former Ferrari chief designer” to create the RX. Ferrari explicitly denied the claim, and the post was subsequently deleted.
Despite the dispute surrounding its appearance and design origins, Luxeed has packaged the exotic-inspired styling into a domestic electric vehicle aimed at a much lower price point.
Electric Powertrain Offers Up to 585 Horsepower
Underneath the RX’s exterior is a battery-electric platform available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and three different battery offerings.
The entry-level version uses an 81.1-kWh battery pack paired with a rear-mounted motor producing 371 horsepower. Buyers seeking greater performance can choose the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, which generates a combined 585 horsepower.
Battery choices extend to two 100-kWh packs offered with different chemistry specifications. Under China’s CLTC testing standard, the Luxeed RX can achieve a maximum claimed driving range of up to 529 miles (852 km) on a single charge.
Luxeed RX Adds Aerodynamic and Tech Features
The RX also incorporates several functional design and technology features. These include flush flap-style door handles, an aggressive front fascia with dark trim accents and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor for advanced driver-assistance systems.
The combination of battery-electric power, high output and technology gives the RX specifications designed to complement its low-slung, performance-focused appearance.
Luxeed RX Targets a Very Different Price Point
The biggest difference between the Luxeed RX and the Ferrari Purosangue is their market positioning. A factory-fresh Purosangue costs upwards of $400,000, putting it firmly in the ultra-luxury segment.
The Luxeed RX, meanwhile, is expected to be priced around RMB 253,500, or approximately $37,000 USD, placing it closer to competitors such as the Xiaomi YU7.
