The Tesla Cybertruck may not be the first vehicle that comes to mind for off-road driving, but Unplugged Performance is showing how the electric truck can be transformed for demanding unpaved terrain with a Dune-inspired design and extensive equipment upgrades.
Unplugged Performance Builds a Dune-Inspired Cybertruck
Unplugged Performance, a California-based outfitter specializing in Tesla EVs such as the Model 3, recently showcased a customer-owned Cybertruck featuring its Dune-inspired build.
The project combines a desert-like exterior finish with extensive off-road modifications based on the company’s Stage 3 Expedition and Pursuit packages.
Added Protection for Off-Road Driving
Although Tesla promotes the Cybertruck’s stainless-steel body as durable and even “bulletproof,” Unplugged Performance has added further protection designed to help prevent dents and scratches during off-road driving.
The upgrades include steel front and rear bumpers, a bull bar, steel rocker panels, and satin dry carbon-fiber front and rear fender flares.
The Dune-inspired finish is a FlexiShield paint-protection film. According to the company, it provides the protective benefits of conventional PPF while adding color and heat-activated self-healing properties, helping the truck avoid looking worn after intense off-road runs.
Cybertruck Gains More Off-Road Utility
Unplugged Performance also enhanced the Cybertruck’s utility with a four-bar roof-rack system and MOLLE side sails that provide modular mounting points.
Rear-bumper swing arms can carry equipment such as recovery gear, fuel cans, or a spare tire. For nighttime trails, the truck also features a hood-mounted 50-inch light bar.
Performance Upgrades and Cyberbeast Power
The performance upgrades include improved brake pads, CYBRSHOCKS rear secondary shocks, a three-way adjustable rear sway bar, BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires, and UP-03 beadlock wheels.
The beadlock wheels help keep the tires seated when running at reduced pressures, adding to the truck’s off-road equipment.
From the factory, the range-topping Cyberbeast uses a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 845 horsepower. It also offers an estimated 320 miles of range and a towing capacity of up to 11,000 pounds.
With its Dune-inspired finish and extensive Stage 3 Expedition and Pursuit modifications, the customer-owned Cybertruck showcased by Unplugged Performance takes the electric pickup in a distinctly off-road-focused direction.
