Dodge appears ready to return to the police pursuit vehicle market with a new Charger PPV show car designed for law enforcement fleets. The four-door muscle car made its debut at the Police Fleet Expo at Daytona International Speedway in Florida, showing how Stellantis plans to adapt the latest Charger for police duty.

Images shared by Team One Public Safety Division on Instagram reveal a Charger transformed with police-specific equipment, including a roof-mounted light bar, additional emergency lighting and a reinforced interior bulkhead.

2027 Charger PPV Could Be More Powerful Than Its V8 Predecessor

The new Charger PPV is expected to be available to order in summer 2027 and will come standard with all-wheel drive.

Dodge has not yet confirmed which version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six Hurricane engine will power the police car. The Standard Output version produces 420 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque, while the High Output version makes 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque.

Either configuration would represent an increase over the previous Charger PPV, which produced 370 horsepower from its V8 engine. The new turbocharged setup could therefore give police fleets more power while also improving efficiency.

Police-Specific Hardware Adds Durability

The Charger PPV is expected to receive the equipment needed for law enforcement use, including a stronger suspension and additional cooling systems for the engine and transmission.

Those upgrades are designed to help the vehicle withstand extended periods of idling and the demands of high-speed pursuits, areas where a standard passenger car may require additional preparation.

The show car also features gloss-black wheels and a roof-mounted light bar. Additional emergency lighting has been integrated discreetly into the front grille and rear bumper, giving the Charger a more sinister appearance without dramatically altering its exterior design.

Inside, the Charger Gets a Police-Focused Interior

The cabin has been modified to separate front and rear occupants with a reinforced bulkhead designed to prevent people in the back from interfering with officers in the front.

Despite the divider, the rear seats appear to retain reasonable legroom. The front passenger area is more compromised, with a mounting system for police-specific computer equipment taking up some of the available space.

The interior also includes additional buttons and switches, along with pre-wiring that allows individual police departments to install the equipment they require.

Dodge May Need to Address the Center Console

One potential issue highlighted by online commenters involves the Charger PPV’s center console and its bulky shifter. The configuration could interfere with some of the equipment officers need to operate inside the vehicle.

A column-mounted shifter could provide a potential solution, giving Dodge time to revise the design before the Charger PPV becomes available to order in 2027.

Could Police Contracts Help the Charger?

The Charger has not been as popular as Stellantis would like, and a return to the police pursuit market could provide another opportunity to increase sales of the four-door model.

The automaker is also reportedly working on a V8-powered Charger, but police fleet contracts could provide a more immediate way to put additional Chargers on the road.

Greater visibility from law enforcement fleets could also introduce the redesigned Charger to more drivers, potentially encouraging some consumers to visit dealerships.

The Charger Has Several Advantages as a Police Car

The Charger PPV offers several characteristics that could make it attractive to police departments. It has four doors, a large trunk with a wide tailgate opening and enough interior space for additional equipment.

Its turbocharged engine could also deliver substantial power without the fuel demands associated with the previous V8-powered Charger PPV.

Dodge will still need to make its police offering competitive with rival pursuit vehicles, but the combination of all-wheel drive, a powerful turbocharged engine, four-door practicality and police-specific upgrades gives the 2027 Charger PPV a potentially compelling foundation.
