Hyundai is adding an unexpected new version of the Palisade to its South Korean lineup for 2027: the Palisade High Roof. The new variant joins XRT and Calligraphy Black Ink trims already offered in the U.S., but takes the midsize SUV in a dramatically different direction with a roof that stands 9.4 inches taller than the standard model.

More Headroom and a 21.4-Inch Rear Screen

The additional height of the 2027 Palisade High Roof appears to be concentrated in the space beneath the headliner. While raised roofs are relatively uncommon on SUVs, similar designs have historically been used for conversion vans based on vehicles such as the Ford E-Series and Chevrolet Express.

Hyundai has equipped the Palisade High Roof with a standard rear-seat entertainment system featuring a 21.4-inch screen. The system can stream video from platforms including YouTube, Netflix and Disney+.

The taller roof also incorporates a starfield-style headliner with additional ambient lighting, creating a more distinctive cabin environment for passengers in the second and third rows.

Palisade High Roof Stands Nearly 79 Inches Tall

The Palisade High Roof measures 78.9 inches in height. That makes it about an inch taller than the Lincoln Navigator and three inches taller than the Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

Despite its added height, Hyundai claims the High Roof will still fit in most underground parking garages.

Korea’s First High-Roof SUV

Hyundai describes the Palisade High Roof as Korea’s first SUV-based “high-roof” model. This type of vehicle is generally associated with passenger vans, including Hyundai’s corporate cousin Kia and its “Hi Limousine” Carnival.

Introduced last year, the Kia Carnival Hi Limousine is a taller version of the family minivan with high-tech rear-seat entertainment. Its open floor plan also makes greater use of the additional roof height by providing more room to move around the cabin while parked.

High-roof vehicles are popular as executive transportation in South Korea. Hyundai has not released interior images of the Palisade High Roof, so its exact seating configuration has not been detailed.

U.S. Availability Remains Unlikely

The Palisade High Roof is being introduced in Hyundai’s native South Korean market, while its arrival in the United States appears unlikely. The body style is not very popular among aftermarket van conversions, which could make it difficult to justify adding the variant to the American lineup.

Still, the High Roof gives the Palisade an even more luxurious presentation. The Palisade already has a premium feel within the mainstream SUV segment, and the taller roof and rear-seat-focused features push that approach further.

For now, the 2027 Palisade High Roof remains a South Korean-market model, bringing an unusual high-roof design and a more elaborate rear passenger experience to Hyundai’s SUV lineup.
