A new spy shot of the upcoming Toyota GR GT confirms that the Japanese automaker is actively testing the flagship performance vehicle on public roads in the United States, marking an important stage in its development as engineering teams evaluate the car in real-world driving conditions.
Toyota GR GT Prototype Spotted on U.S. Roads
The latest image provides a clear rear-quarter view of the GR GT prototype. The test vehicle wears a matte black finish across its main body panels, contrasted by a glossy black roof.
The matte wrap is being used as temporary camouflage, but the prototype’s core exterior styling and aerodynamic proportions are already clearly established.
The vehicle also features three red-and-white stripes across its rear section. One is positioned between the taillights, while two others sit on either side of the rear license plate bracket.
Those temporary markings identify the vehicle as an active engineering prototype undergoing road evaluation rather than a finalized production model.

Toyota Motor North America recently provided an update on the vehicle’s availability in the United States. According to a report from Carscoops, executive leadership confirmed that no units have been presold, clarifying earlier confusion following the model’s public display at The Quail.
