BMW has reached two million fully electric vehicle deliveries, a milestone the automaker says underscores the growing importance of its Neue Klasse platform as it expands its next generation of electric vehicles.

The total includes deliveries of the original i3, launched in 2013, but BMW highlighted the role of its newer EV architecture, first previewed by the Vision Neue Klasse concept in 2023. The concept introduced a new approach spanning design language and battery technology and has since led to the iX3 and i3.

“This shows the tremendous importance of the Neue Klasse for the ongoing ramp-up of electromobility at the BMW Group,” the Bavarian automaker said.

BMW’s Two-Millionth Electric Vehicle Goes to Spain

The two-millionth fully electric vehicle was a BMW i5 M60 xDrive, produced at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Germany and delivered to a customer in Spain.

BMW currently builds electric vehicles across several facilities. The iX3 is produced at its Debrecen plant in Hungary, while the company also assembles EVs in China, where long-wheelbase versions of the iX3 and iX5 are offered exclusively.

BMW Expands EV Production for the U.S. and Mexico

In the United States, BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina is preparing to produce the iX5, which will become the automaker’s first EV built in the country.

BMW also plans to manufacture the iX3 and i3 in Mexico. However, it remains unclear whether future U.S.-bound vehicles will be supplied from Mexico rather than Europe.

BMW EV Sales Rise 38% in Europe

As availability of the iX3 increased, BMW’s EV sales in Europe rose 38% year over year to 81,445 vehicles in the second quarter of 2026.

Electric vehicles accounted for 28% of BMW Group’s European sales during the first half of the year. One in three fully electric BMWs ordered in Europe was an iX3, while half of all X3-family orders were for the electric version.

The figures highlight the growing role of the iX3 in BMW’s expanding electric vehicle lineup.

BMW Has Delivered 3.5 Million Electrified Vehicles

Including plug-in hybrids in its total, BMW said it has delivered around 3.5 million electrified vehicles globally since 2013. That figure should include the BMW XM, which has struggled to gain traction.

In the United States, however, import tariffs and slower EV demand could mean the Neue Klasse takes more time to gain momentum. BMW is also discontinuing the iX in the U.S.

The Neue Klasse rollout in the American market will be led by the iX3, with U.S. deliveries scheduled to begin in late September 2026. The electric SUV will start at $61,500.
