Volvo is expanding the safety capabilities of the EX90 and EX60 with a new software update that adds several Connected Safety Features designed to provide earlier warnings about hazards on the road. The update also brings a new audio enhancement to the EX90’s 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.

Volvo Expands Connected Safety Features

Safety has become a major priority for automakers as customers increasingly demand stronger protection on the road. Volvo has long been among the brands focused on vehicle safety, and the Swedish automaker continues that approach with upgrades for the EX90 and EX60.

The current EX90 has earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, and Volvo is now adding new capabilities to its Connected Safety suite through a software update.

New Driver Alert Features

The software update introduces several alerts intended to warn drivers about hazards detected ahead. The new features include:

  • Large Animal Alert: Warns other drivers when a large animal is detected on or near the road ahead.
  • Vulnerable Road User Alert: Warns other drivers when pedestrians and cyclists are detected ahead on or near highways.
  • Roadwork Alert: Warns other drivers when roadwork is detected ahead.
  • Accident Ahead Alert: Warns other drivers about accidents farther ahead using real-time data from connected Volvo cars or traffic management centers.

According to Volvo, the new features are designed to expand the safety system’s ability to deliver clear, early warnings, particularly in lower-visibility situations. They complement existing features including Slippery Road Alert and Hazard Light Alert.

Connected Alerts Can Reach Other Vehicles

Drivers with active Connected Safety Technology have access to the European Data for Road Safety ecosystem. The system can share alerts with vehicles from other brands as well as national traffic management centers, helping distribute warnings beyond Volvo vehicles.

EX90 Gets Enhanced Audio Support

Volvo is also updating the EX90’s audio experience. The latest update adds Spatial Audio support to the vehicle’s 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system when using Apple CarPlay.

The technology is enhanced through Dolby Atmos, giving EX90 drivers a multi-dimensional and more immersive listening experience inside the cabin.

With the software update, Volvo is combining expanded Connected Safety capabilities for the EX90 and EX60 with an enhanced in-car audio experience for EX90 drivers.
