The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is returning to the lineup, and a new 17-second teaser shows the off-road-focused SUV tackling sand, slickrock and rough desert trails. After initially returning for 2026 without the Trailhawk trim, Jeep has now confirmed that its rugged badge is coming back.

New Cherokee Trailhawk Teaser Shows Off-Road Testing

Jeep first teased the Cherokee Trailhawk with a cryptic image showing its front end. The latest video provides a much clearer look at what the automaker has in store, although the SUV remains heavily covered in camouflage.

In the video, the Cherokee Trailhawk climbs over rock ledges with its wheels splayed out, then charges through sand dunes and loose desert terrain. The footage suggests Jeep is putting the vehicle through demanding off-road conditions rather than simply adding Trailhawk styling.

The testing appears to put the Cherokee’s ground clearance, approach angles and traction systems to work. Even beneath the camouflage, several Trailhawk-specific design cues are visible.

Trailhawk Design Hints at Serious Off-Road Equipment

The camouflaged Cherokee Trailhawk features a beefier front bumper, bright red recovery hooks, chunky all-terrain tires and blacked-out wheels. Jeep’s familiar seven-slot grille remains, while the front end appears to have been reworked to help the SUV clear larger obstacles.

Jeep has not yet released the full specifications. If the vehicle follows the usual Trailhawk formula, it could feature tougher suspension, skid plates, hill descent control and other Trail Rated equipment. The teaser video indicates that many of those features are likely returning.

The Cherokee’s relatively compact size puts it against vehicles including the Ford Bronco Sport Sasquatch, Subaru Forester Wilderness and Toyota RAV4 Woodland. That positions the Trailhawk within the adventure-ready compact SUV segment.

What Comes Next for the Jeep Cherokee

Jeep has not announced the full reveal date for the Cherokee Trailhawk. However, the series of teasers indicates that the off-road model is nearing its official debut.

The Cherokee has an important role in Jeep’s lineup after a break in production. For 2026, it returns to fill the space between the Compass and Grand Cherokee, while the Trailhawk badge brings the Cherokee’s off-road focus back to the lineup.

Jeep also says the Cherokee family will continue as the company rolls out more electrified SUVs. The next-generation Cherokee, planned for the 2029 model year, will be the first US-built model on the STLA One platform, with production set to begin at the Belvidere plant in Illinois.
