Stellantis is delaying the launch of its Jeep and Ram range-extended models, pushing back production schedules by six to nine months as the automaker works to “ensure they go smoothly.” The delays affect the Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV and Ram 1500 REV, both of which use a unique range-extender propulsion system.

Jeep and Ram Production Plans Delayed

Stellantis had planned to launch its Jeep and Ram range-extended vehicles in May 2027, but those plans have now been pushed back. According to a memo sent to suppliers, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV is scheduled to enter production in November 2026, compared with the original May 2026 target.

The Ram 1500 REV has also been delayed. Production is now planned for mid-April 2027, representing a nine-month shift from its original schedule.

According to the report, Stellantis made the changes to “ensure they go smoothly.” Automotive News reviewed the supplier memos and spoke with two supplier executives familiar with the plans.

Stellantis Wants a Smooth Range-Extender Launch

The supplier executives said the vehicles were pushed back “to ensure smooth launches for the unique propulsion system, which uses a 400-volt battery, Pentastar engine, and onboard gasoline-powered generator.”

The delays follow a series of changes at Stellantis as the company has realigned its strategies to place greater attention on hybrids and other consumer preferences.

The Ram 1500 REV, which was originally supposed to be called the Ramcharger, was initially scheduled for launch in 2025 before facing multiple delays. The latest production schedule now places its launch further out.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer REV is facing a similar delay, with its production target moving from May 2026 to November 2026.

Range-Extended EV Technology Is New for Stellantis

Stellantis is taking additional time with its range-extender system, which combines a 400-volt battery, Pentastar engine and onboard gasoline-powered generator.

Extended-range EVs are not new to the market, but the technology is new to Stellantis. The company is delaying the vehicles as it works toward smoother launches for its first range-extended models.

Competition Is Growing

The delays come as hybrids remain the main consumer preference, while extended-range EVs are still not commonplace in the U.S. Chinese manufacturers have moved quickly with EREV and PHEV models, adding pressure to an increasingly competitive market.

Other automakers are also considering range-extended vehicles. Ford has already put plans in motion to revive the F-150 Lightning as an EREV, while Volkswagen is considering the EREV setup for its vehicles as a propulsion system in the United States and Europe.

For Stellantis, reaching the market first is only part of the challenge. The company is delaying its Jeep and Ram range-extended models to help ensure their propulsion systems launch smoothly, while competitors continue developing their own EREV plans.
