The Mercedes-Benz E-Class EV is moving closer to production, with new spy photos revealing production lighting for the first time as the electric sedan undergoes testing near the Nürburgring. Insiders indicate the Mercedes-Benz E-Class EQ will reach dealerships, including in the U.S., in 2027, one year earlier than originally planned.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class EV Reveals Production Design
Expected to arrive for the 2028 model year, the new E-Class EV will bridge the old and new design directions. At the front, three-pointed star motifs serve as daytime running lights, while the headlight clusters appear longer and more defined than those on the C-Class.
The prototype also shows openings for a lower intake and side scoops that will help cool the brakes. Sinuous, angular lines can be seen across the hood, although the vehicle’s true body contours remain concealed by vinyl camouflage and additional cladding beneath the doors.
The latest images also confirm a panoramic glass roof and physical door handles. At the rear, the trunk is smoothly integrated with a subtle lip spoiler, while stretched taillights sit below it.
Unlike the headlights, the taillights do not appear to feature star-shaped motifs. Their design instead seems slightly reminiscent of the classic W123 E-Class. The electric sedan will also feature rear-axle steering, like the existing E-Class, to help maneuver the vehicle.
2028 Mercedes-Benz E-Class EQ Range and Power
The 2028 Mercedes-Benz E-Class EV will use the MB.EA-M architecture for midsize vehicles, effectively replacing the unpopular EQE. Lithium-ion batteries are expected to enable up to 621 miles of range on the WLTP cycle.
That range is expected to apply to rear-wheel-drive versions equipped with a single motor. 4MATIC all-wheel-drive models will use a dual-motor powertrain, bringing additional power and all-weather capability.
An AMG version has also been spied this year and could produce as much as 900 horsepower.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class EV Launch Timeline
With development continuing, Stuttgart may provide additional information before the end of the year. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class EQ is expected to launch sometime in 2027, with the vehicle arriving at dealerships, including in the U.S., a year earlier than originally planned.
