The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is delivering the kind of performance Chevy promises, with real-world testing showing that the $86,000 sports car can accelerate at a level typically associated with far more expensive supercars. Motor Trend’s testing also put the hybrid-assisted Grand Sport X’s performance in line with Chevrolet’s claims.
2027 Corvette Grand Sport Performance Tested
The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport is powered by a new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 producing 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The Grand Sport X uses the same LS6 engine but adds an electric motor that drives the front axle. The combination produces 721 hp and gives the Grand Sport X all-wheel drive.
Chevrolet says the Grand Sport can reach 60 mph in 2.75 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 10.95 seconds. The Grand Sport X is rated at 2.4 seconds to 60 mph and 10.4 seconds through the quarter-mile.
Motor Trend Performance Figures
Motor Trend’s results closely matched Chevrolet’s published figures. The Grand Sport reached 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, while the Grand Sport X completed the sprint in 2.4 seconds.
The Grand Sport recorded a 0-100 mph time of 7.1 seconds and went from 45 mph to 65 mph in 1.4 seconds. The Grand Sport X completed those tests in 5.8 seconds and 1.1 seconds, respectively.
- Grand Sport 0-60 mph: 2.7 seconds Motor Trend; 2.75 seconds Chevrolet
- Grand Sport X 0-60 mph: 2.4 seconds Motor Trend and Chevrolet
- Grand Sport 0-100 mph: 7.1 seconds
- Grand Sport X 0-100 mph: 5.8 seconds
- Grand Sport 45-65 mph: 1.4 seconds
- Grand Sport X 45-65 mph: 1.1 seconds
- Grand Sport quarter-mile: 11.0 seconds at 122 mph Motor Trend; 10.95 seconds Chevrolet
- Grand Sport X quarter-mile: 10.4 seconds at 129.2 mph Motor Trend and 10.4 seconds Chevrolet
The 0.05-second difference between Motor Trend’s Grand Sport results and Chevrolet’s figures is small enough to be imperceptible and could simply reflect differences in rounding. The Grand Sport X, meanwhile, matched Chevrolet’s acceleration and quarter-mile claims.
Launch Control and Michelin Tires Aid Performance
Motor Trend credited the Corvette’s consistency, at least in part, to an improved launch control system. According to the publication, the latest version is better than the system used in previous C8 Corvette models.
Preparation for the acceleration runs included burnouts to warm the tires before testing. The cars were equipped with optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.
With the Grand Sport delivering this level of performance, matching the Corvette’s numbers requires a Porsche 911 Turbo S costing almost $300,000, according to the comparison in the source material.
2027 Corvette Grand Sport Pricing and Performance Packages
The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport starts at $86,000, plus a $2,495 destination fee. Buyers seeking additional capability can add the $3,500 Z52 Sport Performance Package.
The Z52 Sport Performance Package includes Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 275/30ZR20 front and 345/25ZR21 rear tires, and a six-mode traction management system.
For buyers wanting an even more extreme setup, the $20,695 Z52 Track Performance Package adds all of the Sport Performance Package’s features along with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R 275/30ZR20 front and 345/25ZR21 rear tires, carbon-ceramic brakes, quad-exit center-mounted exhausts, and a carbon-fiber aero package.
A 535-hp Grand Sport equipped with the Z52 Track Performance Package costs $109,190.
Corvette Grand Sport vs. Porsche 911 Carrera
For comparison, a base Porsche 911 Carrera starts at $135,500 plus a $2,350 destination fee, bringing its total to $137,850.
The Porsche produces 388 hp, reaches 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 183 mph. Its total starting price is at least $28,660 higher than the Grand Sport equipped with the Z52 Track Performance Package.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S referenced in the comparison costs considerably more.
2027 Corvette Grand Sport X Pricing
The 721-hp 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X starts at $109,700, plus a $2,495 destination fee. Unlike the regular Grand Sport, it does not offer the same range of performance packages.
However, buyers can add Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 275/30ZR20 front and 345/25ZR21 rear tires for $500. A quad-finisher center exhaust costs an additional $1,995, while a carbon-fiber engine cross brace is priced at $2,895.
Motor Trend’s testing shows the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X delivering acceleration figures that closely track Chevrolet’s published performance numbers, reinforcing the performance claims attached to both models.
