Bugatti has entered a new era under Rimac, which has completed its majority buy-in and now takes complete control of the storied brand, bringing a new leadership structure and a renewed focus on future products.
Rimac Takes Full Control of Bugatti
When Porsche first agreed to sell its stake to Rimac in 2021, the shareholder structure gave Rimac a 55% majority stake in Bugatti, while Porsche retained the remaining 45%. Porsche also held a 21% shareholding in Rimac Group.
The arrangement was initially structured as a joint venture, but that has now changed. According to the official announcement, “a consortium led by HOF Capital, including BlueFive Capital as its largest investor and other institutional investors from the US and Europe, agreed to acquire Porsche’s shareholdings in Rimac Group and Bugatti Rimac. The transaction has now been completed.”
New Leadership Structure
Following the completion of the Porsche buyout, Mate Rimac takes over as President of Bugatti Automobiles. Marko Brkljačić is being considered for the Chief Operating Officer role.
Another significant leadership change will see current Bugatti Automobiles Managing Director Hendrik Malinowski transition to Chief Commercial Officer.
Bugatti Prepares for Its Next Chapter
The ownership change and new management structure come as Bugatti continues efforts to usher in a new era. Just this past July, the company opened its new La Manufacture production facility in Molsheim.
Bugatti has also reached a transition point in its product lineup. The Mistral has finally been put out of production, while the new flagship Tourbillion is currently undergoing testing.
Tourbillion Brings a New V16 Powertrain
The Tourbillion also marks a major change in Bugatti’s powertrain approach, with a new V16 engine replacing the iconic W16.
Bugatti’s new V16 is a naturally aspirated unit built in partnership with legendary engine builder Cosworth. Three electric motors will assist the V16, with total output reaching 1,800 hp.
The performance is expected to give the Tourbillion a 0-60 mph time of 2.0 seconds and a top speed of 276 mph.
With Rimac now in complete control, Bugatti is moving forward under a new leadership structure while preparing its next generation of flagship performance cars.
